What are the symptoms of a pectoral muscle strain? What are the different types?

In life, we are bound to suffer some bumps and bruises, such as straining a muscle during exercise. So what are the symptoms of a strained chest muscle?

1. Swelling: After the soft tissue of the human body is injured, the local area will often swell slowly, which will compress the nerves and cause pain. The skin in the swollen area will also become sensitive and tender.

2. Ligament rupture: This is usually caused by movements beyond the range of joint movement during activities, which leads to passive pulling of related muscles and causes tearing or complete rupture. Ligament rupture is often accompanied by sprains and fractures.

3. Sprain: refers to the injury of the limb joints or soft tissues of the body (such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, etc.) without fractures, dislocations, skin and flesh damage, etc. The main clinical manifestations are pain and swelling at the injured site and limited joint movement, which often occur in the waist, ankles, knees, shoulders, wrists, elbows, and hips.

4. Contusion: This is usually caused by movements beyond the range of joint movement during activities. The degree of ligament injury is not serious, but redness and swelling will occur.

5. Joint sprains and dislocations: They are mostly caused by sudden and violent twisting of the joints, over-flexion and over-extension, or direct or indirect force on the joints, which can cause damage to the tendons and ligaments attached to the bones and joints. They are common in the ankle, knee, wrist, shoulder and waist.

6. Muscle strain and soft tissue contusion: Once pain occurs, stop exercising immediately, apply ice or cold towels to the painful area, and use elastic bandages to apply pressure to the injured area to shrink small blood vessels and reduce local congestion and edema. Avoid rubbing, massaging or hot compresses. After 24 to 48 hours of cold compress treatment, you can apply treatments such as promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, and relieving swelling and pain.

7. Rupture of small blood vessels: After muscle strain, small blood vessels usually rupture and bleed, causing local pain, swelling, intra-tissue bleeding, hematoma, joint swelling, movement disorders, and tenderness. During physical examination, it is found that the ligament is obviously painful, and if it is completely broken, the stability of the joint will decrease.
