Hyperthyroidism surgery can easily cause these four complications!

Hyperthyroidism surgery can easily cause these four complications!

For patients with hyperthyroidism, surgery is a very good treatment method and is also the first choice. However, the actual situation is that surgical treatment is not widely used in clinical practice. The main reason is that hyperthyroidism surgery will cause some complications. These complications mainly include the following four types.

1. The patient experiences voice change or loss of voice after surgery

If the recurrent laryngeal nerve near the thyroid gland is damaged during hyperthyroidism surgery, it will cause adverse consequences such as recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis, causing the patient to have voice changes or even lose their voice. If both recurrent laryngeal nerves are damaged, it may also cause the patient to have respiratory distress or even suffocation after the operation.

2. Patients experience massive bleeding during and after surgery

Hyperthyroidism surgery may cause massive bleeding during and after the operation. If bleeding is not stopped adequately or in time, once bacteria invade the body, it will cause infection or worsening of the condition, and even endanger life.

3. Long-term hand and foot convulsions in patients after surgery

If the parathyroid glands, which are closely connected to the thyroid gland, are mistakenly removed during hyperthyroidism surgery, it will cause low blood calcium levels in the body. After the operation, the patient will show characteristic convulsions in the hands and feet, which will seriously affect his or her life and work.

4. The patient develops hypothyroidism symptoms after surgery

The main cause of hypothyroidism is excessive thyroidectomy during surgery or the patient has chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. Excessive thyroidectomy will cause insufficient thyroid hormone secretion and cause hypothyroidism symptoms; chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis will seriously damage the body's thyroid antibody tissue and cause hypothyroidism.
