Many people think that diabetes is caused by sugar. In fact, sugar is only one factor in the diabetic diet, not all of it. Diabetic patients should have a more comprehensive diet. So how can they lower their blood sugar? 1. Diversify food, cereals and potatoes are the basis No single natural food can provide all the nutrients needed by the human body. A balanced diet must consist of a variety of foods to meet the body's needs for various nutrients. Staple foods provide abundant carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. After the starch is digested by the human body, it undergoes a complex metabolic process and is finally converted into glucose, which can avoid hypoglycemia and prevent blood sugar from rising too quickly, especially coarse grains such as oats, buckwheat and corn. Vegetables can provide the human body with inorganic salts, vitamins and dietary fiber. People must eat green vegetables every day, especially the leaves and stems of green vegetables. Fruits have always been a headache for diabetic patients. In fact, for most diabetic patients, it is completely possible to control blood sugar and enjoy the benefits and fun of fruits. 2. Develop a habit of drinking water regularly Water is even more important for diabetic patients. Water can dilute blood sugar and blood viscosity, dissolve various nutrients, and make them easier to absorb and utilize; it helps defecation, "cleans" the urinary tract, discharges nitrogenous waste, and prevents cardiovascular diseases. Because the blood sugar concentration is too high, the body is forced to increase urine volume to excrete excess sugar, and the more urine is excreted, the more water the body loses, so it has to drink more water, which is a self-protection measure of the body. If there is no kidney or heart disease, edema or other conditions that restrict drinking water, diabetic patients should drink plenty of water, ensuring 6 to 8 glasses of water (1500 to 2000 ml) a day. At the same time, develop a good habit of drinking water regularly, especially in the summer, and don't wait until you are thirsty to drink. 3. Choose high-quality protein in moderation Protein is an important component of enzymes, hormones, and antibodies in the human body. Diabetic patients have enhanced metabolism and consume a lot of protein, so the protein content in their diet should be appropriately increased, and at least 1/3 of the protein in their diet should be high-quality protein. For patients with complications such as diabetes and kidney disease, since a high-protein diet can aggravate glomerular disease, protein intake should be appropriately reduced. Diabetic patients should increase the proportion of high-quality protein intake. Animal protein is of good quality and easy to digest, but while providing a large amount of protein to the human body, it will also cause the human body to ingest too much saturated fatty acids and cholesterol. Although plant protein, such as beans, has a lower protein content than animal protein, it contains almost no cholesterol and a large amount of dietary fiber, making it suitable for diabetic patients. In order to improve the nutritional value of protein, several kinds of food proteins can be mixed and eaten in a certain proportion to improve the nutritional value of protein through the complementary effect of proteins. 4. Reduce fat and sugar intake Intake of too much fat-rich food will produce excess calories, which may lead to weight gain, reduce the activity of insulin in the human body, and increase blood sugar. Glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, etc. can rapidly increase blood sugar. Excessive intake may lead to insensitivity to insulin secretion, aggravate the condition of diabetes, and increase triglyceride synthesis in the body and increase blood lipids. Therefore, diabetic patients should be alert to sucrose hidden in snacks, bread, biscuits, and canned fruits; try not to add sugar when cooking; do not drink sugary drinks; do not consume large amounts of honey; drink unsweetened milk and sugar-free yogurt. But this does not mean an absolute prohibition. If a diabetic patient has a hypoglycemic reaction, sugar should be supplemented in time to restore the body. In addition, you should avoid eating animal oil and control the amount of vegetable oil; choose lean meat, and remove the skin and fat layer when eating chicken and duck; cook food more often by boiling, stewing, blanching, steaming, and mixing, and avoid frying or pan-frying; eat less nuts, cream pastries, instant noodles, etc. 5. Reduce salt intake A low-salt diet can not only prevent and treat hypertension and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, but also reduce the patient's islet burden, which is beneficial to improve sugar metabolism and stabilize the condition. Therefore, diabetics should control their salt intake and use less salt, soy sauce, chicken essence, ketchup and other condiments when cooking. At the same time, try to eat fresh food and avoid canned food, pickles, salted fish, salted eggs and other foods. While paying attention to food taboos, diabetic patients should not ignore the impact of eating habits on blood sugar. Reasonable eating habits are conducive to blood sugar control; irregular and unreasonable eating habits can worsen the condition. Diabetic patients should eat small meals and multiple meals on the premise that the total amount of food intake remains unchanged. They can eat 4 to 6 meals a day, or even more. |
