What are the preventive measures for fracture necrosis?

No one wants to have a fracture, but you must take good care of yourself after a fracture. Many people say that their fractures healed well after surgical reduction and fixation, but later they found that the bones were necrotic. What's going on? This is inseparable from one's own bad living habits. How can we prevent bone necrosis after a fracture?

To prevent bone necrosis, you should do the following:

1. Check X-rays frequently

Even if the fracture heals, it is necessary to follow up for 3 to 5 years. Studies have shown that about 85% of femoral head necrosis occurs within 3 years after the fracture, and 98% occurs within 5 years. For the treatment and evaluation of the efficacy of femoral neck fractures, it is not enough to just observe the fracture healing, but the follow-up should be carried out until 5 years after the injury. If nail marks are found on the X-ray film, the height of the femoral head decreases, and the transparent zone of the hardened femoral head is hardened, it indicates that the femoral head has the precursor of necrosis, and active measures should be taken to prevent its further development;

2. Don’t start to carry weight too early

From the perspective of fracture healing, patients with femoral neck fractures can basically bear weight after 12 weeks, but because femoral head necrosis occurs later, weight reduction should be maintained for 1 to 1.5 years.

3. Check promptly if there is any abnormality

If early necrosis of the femoral head is found, medication, appropriate surgery and other measures should be taken to reverse the lesions.

The above is an introduction to the measures to prevent femoral fracture necrosis. I hope it will be helpful to everyone. I wish you good health!
