Men can also get urethritis. Symptoms of urethritis in men

Urethritis is a common urinary system disease. Due to the special structure of the female genitals, women are more likely to be infected than men. Of course, men are also easily infected if they are not careful. What are the symptoms of urethritis in men?

Male urethritis

Urethritis is divided into gonococcal urethritis (commonly known as gonorrhea) and non-gonococcal urethritis.

1. Non-gonococcal urethritis

It is a type of disease in which urethritis exists but no gonococci can be found in urethral secretions. It is mainly caused by chlamydia and mycoplasma. Non-gonococcal urethritis is transmitted through sexual intercourse and invades the urogenital tract organs. The incubation period of non-gonococcal urethritis is generally 7 to 21 days. Male patients often have urethral itching, burning sensation and pain during urination. A few have frequent urination and the urethra opening is slightly red. There is a small amount of mucous secretion or only a crust at the urethra opening in the morning, or the panty crotch is dirty and the urine stream is bifurcated when urinating.

2. Gonococcal urethritis

It is gonorrhea, a purulent infection of the urogenital system caused by gonorrhea. The diagnosis can be confirmed by directly finding gonorrhea in urethral secretions. Clinically, it can manifest as simple urethritis, with the main symptoms of frequent urination, urgency, pain and purulent urine; it can also manifest as complications of prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. in addition to urethritis, with more complicated symptoms such as perineal discomfort, spermatorrhea, sexual intercourse pain, bloody semen, etc. Severe cases may develop peritonitis and gonococcal septicemia, manifested by high fever, abdominal pain and even life-threatening, and is one of the most harmful STDs.

As long as urethritis is confirmed, whether it is gonococcal or non-gonococcal, it must be treated promptly. If it is not cured in time, there will be a risk of complications over time.
