1. Symptoms of cryptorchidism:

(1) Common in infants and young children, usually without obvious symptoms of cryptic testis. Inguinal hernia caused by unclosed processus vaginalis may result in a reducible inguinal mass.

(2) The scrotum on the affected side is flat. Bilateral cryptorchidism is often accompanied by scrotal hypoplasia and the testicles cannot be felt in the scrotum. This is a more obvious symptom of cryptorchidism.

(3) Some children may be able to touch the testicles in the groin.

(4) Acute pain and swelling in the scrotum or groin may occur in case of concurrent incarcerated hernia or testicular torsion.

2. Consequences of cryptorchidism:

(1) Psychological disorders:

The absence of testicles in the scrotum and changes in the shape of the external genitalia can cause patients to feel inferior, unwilling to go to public bathrooms to take a bath, and develop psychological abnormalities.

(2) Influencing functions:

Since one testicle can still secrete sex hormones, it does not affect the couple's sexual life. If both testicles do not descend into the scrotum, testicular development is blocked and sex hormone secretion is insufficient, it may affect future sexual function.

(3) Causes male infertility:

Because the temperature inside the scrotum is 1.5-2℃ lower than the body temperature of 37℃, this "low temperature" condition is necessary for the testicles to produce sperm. Cryptorchidism does not have this "low temperature" condition, and the spermatogenesis function is affected, thus causing male infertility.
