Before the test: Before collecting semen, the patient should stop having sexual intercourse for 4-7 days. Do not use testosterone propionate, testosterone phenylacetate, or nandrolone phenylpropionate one week before the test.

During the examination: The best time to collect semen is in the morning. Wash your hands, genitals, and especially the glans penis with warm water before collecting semen. You can use masturbation or electric massage ejaculation to induce ejaculation.

Normal sperm

Color: Off-white, translucent milky white after liquefaction, and light yellow for those who have not ejaculated for a long time. Freshly discharged semen quickly solidifies into a gelatinous state, and then gradually turns into a flowing liquid. This period of time is called the liquefaction time. Under normal circumstances, semen liquefies within 60 minutes.

Abnormal situation

1) Color: bright red, light red, dark red or soy sauce-like color: seen in tuberculosis, tumors, stones and inflammation of the prostate and seminal vesicles. Yellow pus-like or brown pus-like: seen in prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis. Rice water-like: seen in congenital absence of seminal vesicles or blockage of the seminal vesicle fluid outflow duct.

2) Properties: Thin semen with reduced viscosity indicates too little semen or azoospermia. Non-liquefaction of semen is seen in prostatitis.

3) Too little semen (less than 2 ml) or too much semen (more than 8 ml) is also not conducive to fertility.
