Seven tips for drinking without harming your body

Seven tips for drinking without harming your body

Tip 1: Drink at an ideal speed

The ideal drinking speed is the speed that does not exceed the liver's processing capacity. The liver breaks down alcohol at a rate of about 10 ml per hour.

The amount of pure alcohol (ethanol) can be calculated from the alcohol content indicated on the bottle label. For example, if the alcohol content of a bottle of wine is 16%, 250 ml x 0.16 = 40 ml, then the amount of alcohol is 40 ml.

If a person spends 4 hours to finish drinking, the average amount of alcohol consumed per hour is 10 ml, which is just in line with the liver's processing speed. Drinking at this speed can minimize the burden of alcohol on the liver.

Tip 2: Drink water to restore the body's water balance

Alcohol changes the water balance inside and outside the body's cells. Normally, 2/3 of the body's water is in the cells, but when alcohol is added, the water in the cells will move into the blood vessels. Therefore, although the water content of the whole body remains unchanged, the water content in the cells has decreased, and you will feel thirsty.

Regardless of the reason, it is always a good idea to drink plenty of water. "Hangover water" has been a method of relieving the discomfort after drinking since ancient times. Mix three pinches of salt in a full glass of water and drink it in one gulp. This will stimulate the stomach and make it easier to vomit food.

Tip 3: Drinking sports drinks and juices is also effective

When you wake up the next morning after drinking too much, your throat often feels very dry. At this time, there are alcohol and harmful substances acetaldehyde remaining in the body, and you should find a way to excrete them as soon as possible.

Drinks containing inorganic salts and sugars not only replenish water but also eliminate alcohol from the body. Sports drinks and fruit juices are very effective, especially sports drinks, whose composition is close to human body fluids and is easily absorbed by the human body. Not only are they effective for hangovers, but if you drink them together with alcohol, they can also prevent you from getting too drunk.

In addition, drinking tea containing tea polyphenols and vitamin C, or honey lemonade made from lemon and honey, is also effective for hangovers.

It should be noted that no matter what kind of drink it is, if it is too cold, the active ingredients will not be easily absorbed, so it should be drunk at room temperature or warm.

Tip 4: Eat persimmons to help break down alcohol

Persimmons are fruits rich in fructose and vitamin C. They have been used as an effective food to prevent drunkenness and eliminate hangovers since ancient times. The astringent ingredients in persimmons can break down alcohol, and the potassium they contain has a diuretic effect.

Persimmon leaves also contain dozens of times more vitamin C than citrus fruits. The fresh young shoots can be fried and eaten, or dried and made into persimmon leaf tea.

Tip 5: Eat more shellfish to strengthen the liver's detoxification function

Take clams as an example. The protein content of clams is comparable to that of eggs. Moreover, since they contain a balanced amount of essential amino acids, they will not burden the liver and can help the liver recover its function.

Shellfish foods are usually rich in vitamin B12, taurine and glycogen; vitamin B12 and glycogen also play an important role in promoting liver function; and the taurine in the amino acid can activate the liver's detoxification function after combining with bile acid.

Tip 6: Drink aloe vera juice to reduce blood acetaldehyde concentration

The thorny green part of aloe and its internal gelatin contain polysaccharides, glycoproteins and other substances, which can reduce the concentration of acetaldehyde, a harmful substance produced after the decomposition of alcohol, in the blood. Therefore, if you drink some aloe juice before drinking, it is very effective in preventing symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and blushing after drinking.

In addition, the bitter ingredient in aloe vera, aloe vera, has a stomachic effect and can treat nausea and nausea caused by hangovers.

Tip 7: Protein and fat stay in the stomach the longest, so they are best eaten as snacks.

To avoid obesity caused by consuming too much high-protein food, it is best to choose fish, shellfish, lean meat, chicken, soy products, eggs, cheese, etc. Dairy products such as milk and cheese, eggs, tofu, scallops, and soups made from these foods that contain high-quality protein are beneficial to liver function and will not burden the stomach.
