Circumcision eliminates the "burden" of patients with long foreskin or prepuce that is too long. Although it is a minimally invasive surgery, it cannot be left alone. Self-care after circumcision is very important. Only when the medical work is done well can the wound heal quickly and intactly. Some patients do not pay attention to rest and do not pay attention to the wound being contaminated by the environment, resulting in postoperative bleeding, infection, pain and other adverse conditions of the wound, and the adverse effects are not ideal. Therefore, circumcision patients should pay attention to the following:

1. Bleeding from the wound after surgery:

It is more common 24 hours after surgery. This phase is the period immediately after surgery when the wound is prone to bleeding, especially after erection at night, so it is very easy to cause bleeding, so it needs to be paid special attention. If the bleeding is not serious, such as bleeding only stains part of the gauze red, it can be treated without special treatment, and the blood can often be restored on its own. If the wound bleeding does not stop, causing the gauze to be stained red gradually, or blood continues to drip from the gauze, or the patient cannot clearly see the wound condition, you need to go to the hospital for outpatient treatment immediately.

2. Problems with urination after surgery:

During the first 3 days after surgery (especially before the first dressing change), the wound bandage may affect urination, so when urinating, try to lean forward as much as possible, with the urethra opening facing vertically downward to prevent urine from flowing onto the gauze. However, it is still possible that a small amount of urine will overflow from the urethra after urination, so it is recommended to wipe the urine remaining in the urethra with a handkerchief or wet cloth after each urination, and pay attention to keeping the medical dressing clean and dry. If the gauze is soaked with urine, it is recommended to change the dressing in time. If conditions do not allow, you can also temporarily dry it with a hair dryer, but be careful not to overheat it to cause heat damage to the glans penis.

3. Postoperative wound dehiscence:

Within one week after circumcision surgery, try to reduce sexual excitement and imagination, and hold back urine to prevent the wound from cracking or bleeding due to repeated erections of the male genitals; avoid sexual intercourse within 1-2 months after surgery to avoid wound cracking or bleeding. However, the wound will be different due to different individual situations, and the time it takes to heal the wound will also be different.

4. Issues with wearing underwear after surgery:

What kind of underwear should be worn after circumcision? Some people say that they should not wear any underwear, and many people originally thought that they should wear loose underwear. The reasons are surprisingly the same: to reduce the friction on the glans penis and maintain the freshness and breathability of the vulva. So how can we reduce friction and maintain the breathability of the vulva? After the operation, the doctor will tie up the patient's penis and stand it up, that is, the glans penis is facing up. At this time, a disposable cup (with the bottom removed and the side holes cut for ventilation) can be used to cover the glans penis to prevent the glans penis from touching the surrounding area, and then wear loose underwear; you can also let him cover it with tight underwear in time to completely fix the penis. In this way, when walking, the penis will always be less likely to be rubbed or not easily, which will reduce wound bleeding and relieve pain and discomfort.

5. Rest issues after surgery:

After surgery, you may feel discomfort in the glans penis, which is normal. Therefore, under normal circumstances, we recommend taking a proper rest for 2-3 days and avoiding standing, sitting or walking for a long time. If you sit or stand for a long time, the edema of the penis will worsen, and the blood circulation in the part will be blocked, which will affect the wound healing. Some young people are reluctant to take a vacation after surgery and still insist on working. Because the blood circulation in the part is not smooth, it will directly cause swelling into a purple eggplant shape, which will affect the wound healing.

In addition, after the operation, try to avoid thinking about or touching pornography, pornographic magazines, online pictures and videos, because touching these things will cause the penis to become erect, which can easily cause bleeding after the operation. Young people should pay special attention to avoiding hugging and kissing as much as possible during this period of time to avoid irritation. Some patients may also consider taking sedatives before going to bed to prevent the penis from becoming erect at night, causing pain or bleeding.

6. Postoperative care issues:

After circumcision surgery, quit smoking and drinking, and try to avoid eating spicy foods. You can moderately supplement meat, milk and eggs to promote wound healing. Seafood products and cold and spicy foods should be strictly prohibited as much as possible, and animal livers should be fully cooked and not mixed with cold dishes.

7. Issues with dressing changes and sutures after surgery:

Generally, the medical dressing should be changed every 2-4 days after the operation according to the doctor's instructions, and the medical dressing can be removed after 1 week. After one dressing change, normal activities are generally not life-threatening. Keep the wound dry. If the gauze covering the wound falls off or becomes wet, it should be replaced in time. In particular, do not wet the medical dressing when urinating. If the gauze is soaked in urine during urination, it should be replaced in time. You can clean the area around the urethral opening after urination to keep the medical dressing on the wound clean. For patients with prepuce that is too long, if the skin of the glans penis is detached from the surface during surgery, bleeding is heavy, and the healing time is expected to be longer, the frequency of dressing changes can be appropriately increased to observe the healing condition of the wound.

Circumcision surgery uses absorbable sutures. If there is no infection or bleeding, it is generally not necessary to remove the sutures. The sutures will be absorbed by themselves in about 3-4 weeks, and the sutures will fall off, so there is no need for surgery to remove the sutures. The wound will heal in about a week, but it will take about 6-8 weeks for the wound to heal completely and be able to withstand external forces such as sexual intercourse. Therefore, sexual intercourse (sexual intercourse or masturbation) within 1-2 months after the operation or the wound may still rupture. If the wound ruptures, please go to the hospital outpatient clinic immediately to solve it.

8. Postoperative infection problem:

Regarding the anti-infection aspect after circumcision, because the male genitals have good blood supply and strong anti-infection ability, antibiotics are generally given for 3-7 days after circumcision. If there is no infection after circumcision, it can be basically healed within 5-7 days. No matter how many scars there are on the glans penis, no matter when they appear, there is no need to remove them in advance, they will fall off naturally.

9. Penile edema after surgery:

It is normal to have mild edema for a short time after circumcision surgery. It is a response of the body caused by surgical treatment. Generally, pressure bandage is required for 2-3 days to relieve postoperative edema. If the edema becomes lighter or only the internal oblique muscle is edematous, no special treatment is generally required. For most patients, penile edema will gradually disappear 4 weeks after surgery, but there are also very few patients who have penile edema for a longer time after surgery. This is because the original circulatory system is damaged after surgery. The edema will not subside until a new circulatory system is established. After a period of recovery, it can generally recover on its own, but some require postoperative pressure bandage treatment.

10. Postoperative emergency:

If there is abnormal swelling at the wound site, dark purple glans penis, heavy bleeding on the gauze, or wound infection after circumcision surgery, you should go to the hospital for an outpatient checkup immediately. However, if the urination is not smooth due to tight binding, or small blisters, more serious edema, or black and blue blood on the glans penis, you should also go to the hospital for outpatient treatment first.
