Can a patient with prostate cancer bone metastasis live 15 years?

Can a patient with prostate cancer bone metastasis live 15 years?

The problem of prostate cancer is actually quite common. It is one of the clinical malignancies and has a very high incidence rate among men. After many men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, if they are not treated and controlled in time, the cancer may metastasize. When prostate cancer cells metastasize to the bones, it means the problem is more serious. So, can a man live 15 years after prostate cancer bone metastasis?

1. Once prostate cancer has bone metastasis, it is considered to be in the late stage of prostate cancer. At present, if advanced prostate cancer is actively treated with drugs, the five-year survival rate is about 40%, the ten-year survival rate is about 20%, and the fifteen-year survival rate is less than 10%. If no drug treatment is used and the disease is allowed to develop, the 15-year survival rate is zero. Therefore, even if prostate cancer patients have bone metastasis, it is still safer to choose drug treatment. Drugs that inhibit androgens can be selected, such as Bicalutamide tablets and Noredil injections.

2. Bone metastasis of prostate cancer can occur in any bone. Common bone metastasis sites include pelvis, lumbar spine, sacrum, thoracic spine, ribs, etc. Generally speaking, the worse the cancer differentiation, the higher the probability of bone metastasis. Bone metastasis of prostate cancer mostly manifests as bony changes, and some patients may also have osteolytic or mixed changes. Active measures should be taken for reasonable treatment to prevent the disease from worsening.

3. If bone metastasis occurs in patients with prostate cancer, persistent bone pain may occur, especially when the patient lies still. The pain is particularly obvious. In severe cases, pathological fractures or paralysis may occur. Prostate cancer may also metastasize to the liver, which may cause symptoms such as liver enlargement, dyspnea, and hemoptysis. In the late stage of prostate cancer with bone metastasis, the general condition of patients may deteriorate, and symptoms such as loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, anemia, etc. may occur, and some may even develop cachexia.
