Penile Itching Medication

What are the causes of penile itching and pruritus?

The causes of penile itching and penile pruritus are complex, including internal factors and external factors. People with allergic constitutions, people with long-term mental tension, and people with large emotional fluctuations are prone to penile itching; in addition, people with some diseases, such as chronic digestive system diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine disorders, and metabolic disorders, are also affected by external factors.

There are five main reasons for penile itching and penile pruritus:

1. Contact dermatitis: A small number of men with allergic constitutions may develop dermatitis reactions such as erythema and papules on the skin in contact with the underwear, causing itching, because the clothes are close to the perineal skin and the area is easily soaked by sweat.

2. Balanitis: Most men with excessive foreskin or phimosis suffer from chronic inflammatory reactions due to the accumulation of smegma in the coronal sulcus of the foreskin. They are also prone to condyloma acuminatum and often have local itching.

3. Pubic lice: Pubic lice have special hook-shaped claws that grab the skin in the pubic area and the sweat hair around the anus. Their bites and the stimulation of their saliva toxins can cause local skin itching, folliculitis, and eczema-like changes.

4. Tinea cruris and tinea glutealis: Men with obese and sweaty physiques are prone to fungal growth and reproduction due to their sweaty and moist vulva, which can lead to tinea cruris and tinea glutealis. The symptoms are ring-shaped red papules at the base of the thigh or buttocks, which often cause scaling and itching.

5. Scrotal eczema: The main symptoms are redness, swelling or exudate and desquamation of the scrotal skin. Due to severe itching, the scrotal skin may thicken and become lichenified after scratching.

Experts point out that penile itching and penile pruritus may indicate two male diseases:

1. Acute superficial glansitis: Non-infectious factors may cause penile itching, including local trauma, friction, contraceptive drugs, soap and detergent stimulation, etc., which may manifest locally as edema erythema, erosion, exudation and even bleeding. If secondary bacterial infection occurs, it may purulently form an ulcer surface. Patients with penile itching may experience obvious pain and difficulty in movement. Clinically, this condition is called acute superficial glansitis.

2. Acute epididymitis: It can also cause penile itching. Do not have sex when you have acute epididymitis. Because the epididymis is in an inflammatory state of congestion and edema, the penis is widely congested during sexual intercourse, which will aggravate the swelling of the epididymis and hinder the disappearance of inflammation. You must wait until epididymitis is cured and the symptoms of penile itching disappear before you can gradually start having sex. In the initial stage, the number of sexual intercourses should not be too frequent. Epididymitis is often prone to recurrence because it is not easy to completely eliminate the bacteria in the thin and tortuous epididymal duct.
