What causes knee pain in men?

Male friends should not do strenuous exercise if they find pain in their knees, as this will aggravate the pain. They should also check the specific cause of their pain, which is usually related to ligament injury. If this is the cause, they need to rest in bed for a period of time before the symptoms of knee pain can be relieved, as it will not aggravate the severity of their condition.

1. Ligament injury

Ligament injury around the joint: The stability of the knee ligament is relatively poor when the knee is slightly flexed. If it is suddenly subjected to external force and causes eversion or inversion, it may cause medial or lateral collateral ligament injury. The patient will have a clear history of trauma, knee pain, swelling, ecchymosis, and limited movement.

2. Cartilage damage

It is mainly the meniscus injury of the knee joint. When the knee joint is slightly bent, if the knee is suddenly excessively rotated inward or outward, it may cause a meniscus tear. Meniscus injury will cause obvious tearing sensation in the knee, followed by joint pain, limited movement, limping when walking, and snapping sound when the joint moves.

3. Arthritis

When the synovium of the joint is damaged due to trauma or overwork, a large amount of fluid will accumulate, increasing the pressure inside the joint, causing joint pain, swelling, tenderness, and a rubbing sound. For example, when the knee joint is actively extended to the extreme, especially when the knee extension movement is performed with a certain resistance, the pain below the patella will be aggravated. When the knee is passively flexed to the extreme, the pain will also be significantly aggravated.

4. Autoimmune system diseases

Immune system diseases such as lupus erythematosus and psoriasis can also affect the joints and cause swelling and pain.

5. Growing pains in children

Such patients are mainly children in the growth period, more common in boys. The pain is often seen in the knee joint, hip joint, etc. This situation is a normal physiological phenomenon in the growth and development of children.

6. Traumatic joint pain

Due to some kind of accident or incident, the joints of the shoulder, wrist, knee, ankle, etc. may suffer trauma (such as soft tissue damage, fracture and dislocation, etc.) without any serious fractures, causing joint pain.

7. Purulent arthritis

There is a history of infection in other parts of the body or a history of local trauma. The painful joints may be swollen, and the pain may be deep or not obvious, but there are symptoms such as fever, joint pain, inability to move, and elevated blood count.

8. Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis usually occurs after the age of 40. Joint pain is more severe in the morning and less severe during the day and night. Bone hyperplasia and bone spurs at the joints rub against the surrounding tissues, which can cause joint pain.

9. Osteoporosis

Elderly women who have multiple joint pains, feel particularly weak, and cannot walk with weight may have osteoporosis if other diseases are excluded. 10. Rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis often occur in women aged 20 to 45. Rheumatic arthritis often causes migratory pain, pain, swelling, and stiffness that often occur in the wrists, and joint sensitivity, swelling, and pain occur simultaneously, symmetrically.
