Is it certain that my father's baldness will be hereditary?

Baldness is a common phenomenon in daily life and is also very distressing. Not only does baldness affect one's personal image, it also causes certain damage to the hair follicles on the scalp. There are certain genetic factors for father's baldness. Generally speaking, genetic factors are easily caused according to the body's genes and metabolism, and most of them are easily passed on to boys.

Is it certain that my father's baldness will be hereditary?

Male baldness is more severe than female baldness

There is a certain reason why baldness is hereditary. Medically, baldness is called androgenic alopecia, and its occurrence is determined by three factors: genetic factors, age, and androgen metabolism. Genetic genes play an important role in the occurrence of baldness, but it is also affected by factors such as the environment and personal living habits. At the same time, its clinical manifestations in men and women are extremely unbalanced, and the degree of baldness in women is often milder.

Some people think that baldness is a "patent" of men, because the occurrence of baldness is not only due to genetic genes, but also affected by male hormones. Under the influence of the baldness gene, dihydrotestosterone in the body acts on the hair follicles to cause them to shrink, the hair becomes thinner, or even stops growing completely, leading to baldness.

Since the level of male hormones in women is very low, the most that will be affected is that the hair will become thinner, but it will not cause baldness. Because baldness is closely related to male hormones, men with the baldness gene are likely to suffer from baldness after reaching maturity.

Understanding the genetics of baldness

Baldness is a dominant trait in boys and a recessive trait in girls. In general, baldness is passed from father to son. If the father is bald and the grandfather is also bald, the incidence of a boy is about 100%.

If the father is not bald and the grandfather is less bald, there is a 25% chance of having a boy. If the father is not bald and the grandfather is full of thick hair, the possibility of the baby being bald is almost zero. Baldness is a sex-linked recessive gene. Generally, baldness is inherited from one generation to another. For example, the grandfather is bald and so is the grandson. This is because the X chromosome of the grandfather's baldness was given to the mother. The mother has only one X chromosome that carries the baldness gene and the other is normal, and baldness is a recessive gene, so the mother is a normal carrier.

If a mother gives birth to a son, there is a 50% chance that he will inherit the chromosome with the baldness gene. If the son unfortunately inherits the X chromosome with the baldness gene from his mother, he will be bald, because men only have one X chromosome.

According to genetic laws, when a normal person marries a bald person, one quarter to one half of their children will have a chance of becoming bald, but it is not certain that they will become bald. Therefore, if there is a family history of hair loss, you should pay attention to developing good living habits in the early stages. A regular schedule can delay the onset of hair loss and may also inhibit it. Once symptoms of hair loss appear, you should choose a regular hospital that specializes in the treatment of hair loss as soon as possible and receive targeted and effective treatment, which can also help you get rid of the troubles of hair loss.
