What is the normal size of the seminal vesicle?

The seminal vesicle is a part of the male reproductive organ. This organ is not an organ for storing semen, but it can secrete the necessary components of semen, which account for about 60% of the main components. The seminal vesicle has a certain size. Too large or too small is abnormal, which will have a certain impact on the production of sperm and the quality of sperm. So what is the normal size of the seminal vesicle? Let's introduce it below.

Normal seminal vesicle is called seminal vesicle for short.

It is an accessory gland of the male reproductive organ. Its secretions, together with the secretions of the epididymis, prostate, bulbourethral glands and sperm produced by the testicles, constitute semen. The fructose in semen is secreted by the seminal vesicles. The fructose content is related to the motility of sperm. Seminal vesicle disease will inevitably affect the survival and vitality of sperm, and severe cases can lead to male infertility. Therefore, early diagnosis of seminal vesicle disease must be taken seriously.

The seminal vesicle is located between the bladder and the rectum, behind the base of the prostate. The seminal vesicle is oval, bag-shaped, or olive-shaped, symmetrical on both sides; the cyst wall is complete and smooth. When the cyst is filled with semen, the ultrasound shows an echo-free area. When the probe squeezes the seminal vesicle, the semen flows and scattered strong echo points can be seen. The size of the seminal vesicle is 3 to 5 cm long, about 1.5 cm wide, and about 1.0 cm thick. The two sides are basically symmetrical, but there are also differences.

In clinical practice, anal examination is often used to diagnose seminal vesicle diseases, but it is not accurate and intuitive enough. Ultrasound can be performed through the abdominal wall, perineum, rectum and urethra, and can clearly show its size, shape, location and internal structure. Ultrasound display: ① Transabdominal and perineal examination: In the transverse section, the seminal vesicle is seen as a round or oval echo-free area at the posterior and external part of the prostate base, and the cyst wall is thin and smooth. In the longitudinal section, the seminal vesicle is a strip-shaped low-echo structure. ② Transperineal examination: It is the coronal plane of the seminal vesicle, which can show the relationship between the prostate and the seminal vesicle and the abdomen of the vas deferens. ③ Transrectal examination: The longitudinal and transverse sections of the seminal vesicle are similar to the abdominal examination images, but because they are not interfered by the gas in the intestinal cavity, the images are clearer and more visible.
