What is scrotal hydrops?

Hydrocele, also known as hydrocele in children, often occurs in infants. The main symptom is that the two testicles are of different sizes. This is due to excessive fluid between the two layers of the testicular tunica vaginalis. It is divided into primary hydrocele and secondary hydrocele. Hydrocele can squeeze the testicles. Long-term chronic hydrocele can lead to testicular atrophy, which can seriously affect the child's future sexual life and fertility.

Diagnosis

Hydrocele in children usually has no systemic symptoms. It is usually discovered by family members as a mass in the inguinal groove or scrotum on one side, or a local mass on both sides. It grows slowly and does not cause pain. When the mass is large, there may be a feeling of bloating. Since the processus vaginalis is relatively small, the fluid flowing into the unclosed processus vaginalis cavity is not easy to flow back into the abdominal cavity, so the mass does not change significantly in size. If the opening of the unclosed processus vaginalis is thick, after lying flat all night, the mass can be seen to be smaller in the morning.

Clinical examination shows a cystic mass with clear boundaries in the lateral inguinal groove or scrotum, with no obvious pedicle connected to the abdominal cavity, and a positive transillumination test can diagnose it. Depending on the location, it can be divided into two types of hydrocele: spermatic cord and testicular hydrocele.

1. The mass of hydrocele is confined to the spermatic cord. It is generally small and oval in shape. The testicles can be clearly felt below the mass. If the testicles are pulled, the mass will move with them.

2. The hydrocele of the testis is a mass hanging at the bottom of the scrotum, in an oval or round shape. If the mass has a large tension, it usually cannot touch the testicle. The light transmission test is positive.

treatment

In newborns, hydrocele usually disappears by itself before the age of two, so there is no need to rush for treatment. If it still does not disappear after the age of two, aspiration should be performed. Most cases will not recur after aspiration.

If the above solution cannot cure the disease, other treatment methods should be adopted. Miao medicine believes that if the kidney is insufficient, the qi transformation will be unfavorable, and water and dampness will stagnate inside the body. If the spleen is weak and the liver is depressed, the meridians will be blocked, and water and dampness will flow down and gather in the front yin. If the three internal organs are weak, this disease will occur. Trauma and infection can easily cause blood stasis and water and dampness to flow, which can also lead to this disease.

Hydrocele in children is a cystic mass in the scrotum. A small amount of hydrocele may not cause discomfort and is often found during physical examinations. A large amount of hydrocele can cause blunt pain in the scrotum and a pulling sensation in the spermatic cord. In the early fetus, the testis is behind the peritoneum. From July to September, it descends through the inguinal canal into the scrotum, and the peritoneum attached to the testis also descends to form the peritoneal processus vaginalis. After birth, the processus vaginalis of the entire spermatic cord from the internal ring to the testis gradually shrinks and resection. The processus vaginalis of the testicular part forms a cystic testicular proper tunica vaginalis. There is only a small amount of plasma in the normal tunica vaginalis cavity. When the secretion and absorption functions of the tunica vaginalis are out of balance, hydrocele can occur.
