What is the commonly mentioned mycoplasma prostatitis?

As we all know, prostatitis is a common disease among men. There are many types of prostatitis, such as chronic prostatitis and aseptic prostatitis. What we are going to talk about today is what exactly is mycoplasma prostatitis?

The so-called mycoplasma prostatitis refers to a prostate infection caused by mycoplasma invading the prostate.

Mycoplasma is a type of microorganism belonging to prokaryotes, and is the smallest organism known to date that can live independently. Mycoplasma invades the human body through unclean sexual intercourse, causing urethritis, and further invades the prostate, causing mycoplasma prostatitis. Mycoplasma can dissolve urea, so it is also called urea solvent, and is also called urea mycoplasma. Among male infertility patients, 80% of those with reduced sperm motility and survival rate, as well as azoospermia and oligospermia also have mycoplasma, and 50% of them also have prostatitis. This is because mycoplasma can adhere to sperm and inhibit the physiological function of sperm. Some mycoplasmas are pathogenic bacteria, but most are not primary pathogens and are often secondary to prostatitis.

Generally, prostatitis is considered as a bacterial infection, and patients with negative prostatic fluid after ordinary culture are considered as "aseptic prostatitis" for treatment, which is of course not effective. When no bacteria are found in the prostatic fluid smear, mycoplasma should be considered. After mycoplasma culture, if typical bacteria grow, it is positive and can be diagnosed. It is difficult to eliminate mycoplasma with antibiotics in the treatment of mycoplasma prostatitis. For example, penicillin is not sensitive to mycoplasma. Erythromycin, tetracycline, doxycycline and other conventional treatments can be used, but the recent cure rate is only about 60%, so it is necessary to continue to consolidate the treatment. Since this disease is transmitted through sexual intercourse, during treatment, both husband and wife must be examined and treated at the same time to prevent infection and completely cure it.
