Four major factors that cause male bladder enlargement

As the name suggests, bladder enlargement means that the bladder is larger than normal. Of course, once this happens, it will affect people's daily lives and even cause obvious pain. So, what are the causes of bladder enlargement? Let me tell you.

Congenital factors

A person can be born with an enlarged bladder. Because the bladder is larger than normal, it can expand in ways that affect the normal function of other organs, such as the kidneys, or even the bladder itself. Sometimes this can cause urination to become blocked, so it's difficult to completely empty the bladder. If this is the case, surgery may be needed to correct it.

Urethra obstruction

Sometimes, an enlarged bladder is caused by a blockage in the urethra. The obstruction may gradually affect the patient's bladder wall, and over time it may irritate the bladder wall and cause it to thicken, even to the point where the entire organ is much larger than normal. Other times, the obstruction is caused by a tumor, which can be benign or cancerous.

Bladder stones

Bladder stones can also contribute to an enlarged bladder. Surgery can help clear this blockage and restore the bladder to its normal size.

Urinary retention

A person can also develop an enlarged bladder after urine retention or unusually high urine output stretches the organ. For example, a person may have trouble emptying their bladder and continually retain some urine. Others have medical conditions that cause the body to produce too much urine. Both of these conditions can cause the bladder to stretch, and correcting the underlying cause can allow the bladder to return to its normal size. But if the stretch is severe, it may be difficult for the bladder to return to its original normal size.
