What to do if a man has high testosterone?

Researchers have recently discovered that as long as testosterone secretion is too low, it may cause problems, but too high testosterone levels in the body may also cause harm during pregnancy. The male hormone testosterone can help us men regulate body functions, and at the same time can promote male sperm production and has a very good regulatory effect on muscle quality. So what should men do if their testosterone level is too high?

Most men experience a natural decline in testosterone levels as they age, and these men often take additional testosterone to regulate their hormone levels.

But researchers have recently discovered that it’s not just too little testosterone that can cause problems. Too much testosterone in men can also be harmful.

A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Endocrinology (JCEM) found that among older men, those with moderate testosterone levels live longer.

According to Bu Beng Yeap, a researcher at the University of Western Australia, Fremantle Hospital, and the lead author of the JCEM study, the process of testosterone metabolism in the human body produces a substance called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which can play a role in reducing the risk of ischemic heart disease in the body. Bu Beng Yeap and his research team found that men who maintain ideal testosterone levels and have higher levels of DHT in their bodies can maintain better health in old age.

Bu Beng Yeap tells us that older men with testosterone levels in the middle range live longer than men with low or high testosterone levels.

It is understood that the researchers came to this conclusion after conducting a cohort study of 3,689 men aged 70-89 in Perth, Australia. These men underwent testosterone and dihydrotestosterone levels between 2001 and 2004, and then the researchers recorded the survival rates of these men in December 2010.

They found that men with the lowest testosterone levels had the highest mortality rate, followed closely by men with high testosterone levels. Overall, men with circulating testosterone levels between 9.8 and 15.8 nmol/L lived the longest.

Other studies have found downsides to high testosterone levels: In 2010, a controversial study of testosterone therapy in older men was halted at Boston College after it found that men taking testosterone for chronic conditions had a higher risk of cardiovascular disease than those taking a placebo.

Sex hormones are a very important health warning for some older men, but we are currently unable to achieve better results by changing testosterone or dihydrotestosterone levels. We can only find better methods through some randomized controlled clinical practices.
