Learn about the father of IVF

Many people should know about test tube babies. Test tube babies are not babies that really grow up in test tubes. Instead, several eggs are taken from the ovaries and combined with the man's sperm in the laboratory to form embryos. The embryos are then transferred to the uterus to implant in the mother's uterus and become pregnant. Many people want to know the founder of test tube babies, so today I will take you to learn about the father of test tube babies.

Robert Edwards was born in Manchester, England in 1925. After military service in World War II, he studied biology at the University of Wales and the University of Edinburgh, where he received his PhD in 1955, with a thesis on mouse embryonic development. In 1958, he became a researcher at the National Institute of Medical Research, where he began his research on the human fertilization process. From 1963, Edwards worked at the University of Cambridge and at the Bourn Hall Clinic (the world's first in vitro fertilization center). Bourn Hall was founded by Edwards and Patrick Steptoe, and Edwards served as its director of research for many years. Edwards was also the editor of several leading journals in the field of fertilization research. Edwards is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Cambridge.[1]

Robert Edwards won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contributions to human in vitro fertilization (IVF). His contributions have made it possible to treat infertility, benefiting more than 10% of couples worldwide.

As early as 1950, Edwards believed that IVF could help treat infertility. Through systematic research, he discovered the important principles of human fertilization and successfully achieved fertilization of human eggs in test tubes (or more precisely, cell culture dishes). On July 25, 1978, the birth of the world's first test-tube baby was the best recognition of Edwards' unremitting efforts. In the following years, Edwards and his colleagues improved IVF and shared it with the world.

To date, about four million people have been born as a result of IVF, many of whom are now adults and some are even parents. Under the leadership of Robert Edwards, research on IVF therapy has yielded many important discoveries and a new field of medicine has been born. His contribution represents another milestone in the history of modern medicine.
