What is the relationship between the kidney and the prostate?

Men pay special attention to the kidney and prostate because they are very important to men. If people have bad kidneys, they will have back pain, weakness, decreased sexual function, etc. In most cases, bad kidneys will also cause some prostate problems, which shows that the kidney and prostate are related. Let's introduce the relationship between the kidney and prostate.

What is the relationship between the prostate and kidneys?

1. From the perspective of the relationship between the prostate and the internal organs in traditional Chinese medicine

First of all, the relationship between the prostate and the kidney is closer than other organs. As an endocrine organ, the prostate can quickly metabolize testosterone into a powerful androgen to promote sexual excitement and help sperm activity. This function is consistent with the role of the kidney in spermatogenesis, fertility, and strengthening (erection) as described in traditional Chinese medicine. The prostatic fluid (a component of semen) secreted and stored by the exocrine function of the prostate is rooted in the kidney yin and originates from the kidney yang. It is closely related to the congenital kidney. If the kidney yin is insufficient, the secretion of prostatic fluid will decrease, and if the kidney yang is weak, the stimulation will be weak, and the prostate will be unable to contract, resulting in the overflow of semen without ejaculation, and the sperm will be stagnant and less active.

Pathologically, the kidneys of old age are weak, and the kidneys cannot control water, and cannot help the bladder to transform qi and move water. The prostate gland proliferates day by day and compresses the urethra, which leads to urinary incontinence, difficulty in urination, and residual urine after urination. If the kidneys are weak and not solid, the sphincter of the prostate urethra will be dyscontracted, which may cause frequent urination and incontinence. Damp heat in the bladder and urinary tract infection can also extend to the prostate gland through urine reflux, forming prostatitis. Conversely, inflammation of the prostate gland can also affect the bladder's qi transformation function, resulting in frequent urination, urgent urination, painful urination and other urinary tract irritation symptoms. Prostate hyperplasia and blood stasis in the urethra will hinder bladder qi transformation, weak urination, bitter and unsmooth urine, thin and bifurcated urine, or incontinence. The bladder happens to be the internal organ associated with the kidney. They are closely related, so protecting the prostate can protect the bladder, reduce the burden on the kidneys, and is beneficial to kidney maintenance.

2. From the perspective of the functions of the prostate and its associated tissues and organs

The prostate gland is accompanied by the seminal vesicles and vas deferens on both sides. The excretory duct of the seminal vesicles merges with the end of the vas deferens to form the ejaculatory duct, which passes through the prostate gland, enters the prostatic part of the urethra, and opens on the urethral ridge. The prostate gland is connected to the testicles through the vas deferens. Therefore, in theory, the kidneys that "produce sperm" and "store sperm" have a very close relationship with the testicles that produce sperm, the seminal vesicles that store sperm, and the prostate gland that is so closely connected.

3. From the perspective of the physiological response of the prostate

The prostate gland is also involved in the main function of the kidneys that dominates sexual and reproductive activities. When men reach orgasm during sexual activity, the prostate gland will also undergo a rhythmic and strong contraction, synthesizing the prostatic fluid and other gonadal secretions into semen, which is discharged from the body through the urethra, completing the human reproductive mission and producing the next generation. At the same time as ejaculation, people also feel happy and euphoric, release sexual energy, relieve sexual tension, and feel a sense of relaxation in the perineum. On the contrary, if there is a long-lasting sexual impulse, the semen is not ejaculated, and the prostate gland is chronically congested, there will be a local swelling and hidden pain.
