Introduction: Can one action predict life expectancy? According to the latest report from the Popular Health website, a Brazilian doctor named Claudio Guil Araújo has invented a simple test that can predict how long a person over 50 can live in just a few seconds. Many elderly patients often have great difficulty in completing some relatively simple skills. Such as picking up something from the floor or getting up from a chair. So he thought whether the flexibility, balance and physical strength of the elderly could be used as a measure of their life expectancy. With the help of his colleagues, Araujo designed this barehanded "sit and stand up" test. Compared with the test of standing up from a chair, it eliminates the influence of the height of the chair armrests. Dr. Araújo recommends that people over 50 years old and in good physical condition can complete the test independently; those with poor physical condition can complete the test in the company of a friend. During the test, you should wear loose and comfortable clothes and go barefoot. First, stand upright on a clean open space, and without the help of your arms or hands, carefully lower your body into a squatting position, and then sit cross-legged. After adjusting your body, return from the sitting position to the original standing position, but you still cannot use the help of your arms. This test is suitable for measuring the overall health of the human body. The test is worth 10 points. During the process of completing the action, every time you use the strength of your arms or knees, 1 point will be deducted from the 10 points. Every time you lose your balance, which makes the smoothness of the action worse or your posture clumsy, 0.5 points will be deducted from the 10 points. Other items that will deduct 1 point include: landing on one hand, landing on one knee, landing on one forearm, supporting the knee or thigh with one hand, landing on one leg, etc. After testing more than 2,000 patients aged between 51 and 80, Dr. Araújo found that it is highly accurate in predicting patients' life expectancy. Those with a score below 8 in the test are twice as likely to die in the next 6 years, and those with a score below 3 are five times more likely to die in the same period. Overall, for every 1 point increase in the test score, people's mortality rate will decrease by 21%. Araújo specifically reminded: Although this study was conducted only on people over 50 years old, this test is suitable for measuring the overall health of the human body regardless of your age. If people under 50 have difficulty completing this test, they should undergo a health check-up and investigation in a timely manner, and strengthen strength training and body flexibility exercises in their daily lives. |
