A positive benzidine test is commonly seen in hemolytic anemia, erroneous intravenous injection, compression injury, large area burns, dengue fever and rhabdomyolysis syndrome; it is rarely caused by the following compounds such as: isopropyl arsenic trititanium, phenol, carbon monoxide, chloroform, oxalic acid, potassium chlorate, quinoline, quinine, sulfonamide, cowpea, snake venom, etc.
