Light-colored semen

Light-colored semen

The color of a man's semen can reflect his physical condition. If the semen is milky white, grayish white or light yellow, it is healthy and normal. If it is light red, dark red or any other abnormal color, it may be unhealthy. Don't underestimate it. The health of sperm is directly related to fertility. If there is an abnormality, you need to go for a check-up. The following introduces the relevant details. Let's take a look.

The color of semen refers to the color of semen after male ejaculation. Normal male semen is grayish white or milky white right after ejaculation. After liquefaction, it becomes translucent and slightly turbid milky white. For those who have abstinence for a long time, it may be slightly light yellow. Semen that is bright red, light red, dark red or soy sauce-colored and contains a large number of red blood cells is called hematospermia, which may be caused by non-specific inflammation of the prostate and seminal vesicles, genital tuberculosis, tumors or stones. Yellow or brown purulent semen is seen in prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis.

Clinical significance

1. If the semen is milky white, yellow-green or brown and purulent, it indicates inflammation of the male reproductive tract or accessory glands, such as prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis.

2. If it appears light yellow, it may be seen in people who have not ejaculated for a long time.

3. If the semen appears pink or red, or red blood cells can be seen under a microscope, it is bloody semen, which is commonly seen in patients with accessory glands or posterior urethritis (non-specific inflammation of the prostate and seminal vesicles), and occasionally in patients with genital tuberculosis or tumors or stones.

Normal value reference range

Normal semen is grayish white or milky white right after ejaculation. After liquefaction, it becomes translucent and slightly turbid milky white.

Notes

Before collecting semen, you must stop having sex for 2 to 7 days, and you must not masturbate or have nocturnal emissions. You should also abstain from smoking and drinking, and avoid taking drugs that affect spermatogenesis. Your genitals must be kept clean before semen collection.
