How to care for the glans penis

Many men have the trouble of foreskin being too long. Not only is it difficult to clean, but it is also prone to inflammation. In severe cases, it can lead to inability to have sexual intercourse or infertility. Therefore, if the foreskin is too long, it must be removed by surgery in time. After the operation, you must pay attention to the care of the glans penis, do not let urine infect the bandaging material, pay attention to personal hygiene, do not fantasize or stimulate the patient, and use some anti-erection drugs.

【Postoperative treatment】

1. After the operation, the patient is asked to rest in bed as much as possible within 24 hours and avoid strenuous exercise within 24 hours;

2. Routine use of antibiotics after surgery to prevent infection;

3. Remove the bandage 3-5 days after the operation;

4. Keep the area dry and hygienic after the operation, and do not contaminate the dressing materials with urine;

5. Avoid sexual stimulation. Generally, there is no need to use hemostatic and erection-suppressing drugs.

6. Starting from the first day after surgery, you can use iodine tincture diluted solution (1:1 water) to soak the glans penis, wipe off the secretions with a cotton swab, and then blow dry with a hair dryer.

【Common postoperative complications】

1. Postoperative bleeding: It is more common on the night of surgery, manifested by continuous bleeding from the incision and the formation of penile hematoma, which is related to the patient's abnormal coagulation, incomplete hemostasis during surgery, and penile erection.

2. Postoperative incision infection: It is more common within one week after the operation, manifested by purulent secretions and incision dehiscence. It is related to uncontrolled preoperative foreskin infection, lax aseptic operation during surgery, postoperative use of antibiotics, and urine-contaminated incisions.

3. Postoperative incision dehiscence: It is common within three weeks after surgery, manifested as partial or complete dehiscence of the incision, which is related to postoperative infection and premature sexual contact.

4. Postoperative residual foreskin edema: It is more common within one month after the operation, and is manifested as painless pale edema of the inner plate of the residual foreskin. It is related to improper dressing method of auxiliary materials and premature strenuous exercise.

【Child circumcision treatment】

1. Timing of surgery : Circumcision of children is usually performed between the ages of 10 and 14, because the development of the penis at this time is conducive to surgical operation, and the children can also cooperate with local anesthesia, without the need for hospitalization for general anesthesia, which reduces the side effects of anesthesia.

2. Features of circumcision in children:

(1) Postoperative edema is easy: Due to the physiological characteristics of children's foreskin, the subcutaneous tissue is loose, the skin is thin and elastic, and the venous return is not smooth after the operation, which makes edema very easy to form. Postoperative incision bandaging is very important. The incision must be bandaged tightly, especially the frenulum must not be exposed outside the gauze, and the bandage must not be too loose. This is an important step to prevent edema at the frenulum.

(2) Postoperative adhesion: This is mainly related to the adhesion between the inner plate of the foreskin and the glans penis of children. If the adhesion is separated during the operation after anesthesia and then circumcision is performed, the original adhesion site will exude fluid to form an ulcer and scab after the operation, which will increase the pain of the child's postoperative dressing change and affect the healing of the foreskin. For this reason, if it is not phimosis, the adhesion site can be bluntly separated one week before the operation, and erythromycin eye ointment can be applied externally. After the wound heals, circumcision can be performed.

(3) Less prone to bleeding and infection after surgery: This is related to the vigorous metabolism of children’s skin.
