After a normal male has an erection, if he relieves his physical desire, he will ejaculate semen. People who have seen semen should know that normal semen should be white, and according to different male physical conditions, semen can also be divided into thick or thin. However, some men have such a situation that the ejaculated semen contains some blood, which is called hematospermia. So what is the matter with blood in the ejaculated semen? Doctors point out that if semen turns blood red, light red or reddish brown, it is a sign that blood has been mixed into the semen. Generally speaking, at least 70% of hematospermia in men under 30 years old is caused by inflammation. In addition to the small amount of sperm, the components of semen mainly come from the seminal vesicles, followed by the prostate. From an anatomical perspective, the ejaculatory duct connected to the seminal vesicle opens at the urethral ridge of the posterior urethra, surrounded by 10-20 prostate duct openings. In fact, the seminal vesicle, prostate and posterior urethra are interconnected, and inflammation can easily spread from one to the other two. In addition, the wall of the seminal vesicle is very thin, and once it is congested, the cyst wall full of blood vessels is prone to bleeding. Where does blood in semen come from? Why does blood appear in semen? There are blood streaks in male semen, which we call hematospermia. Hematospermia is harmful to the male body. If hematospermia is not treated for a long time, the blood will accumulate in the semen and become a bacterial culture medium, which will affect the quality of semen and produce "dead sperm" in severe cases. If the primary disease is not treated well, it will also lead to a decline in overall health, decreased sexual function, and weakened fertility. This will inevitably develop into male infertility, and long-term discharge of blood in semen will also lead to physical weakness. Hematospermia can be divided into functional hematospermia and organic hematospermia according to the presence or absence of organic lesions. Functional hematospermia Functional hematospermia is mainly caused by not having sex for a long time. If you suddenly have sex, it is easy to have hematospermia that lasts for a short time and is easy to recur. The main reason is that when a man reaches orgasm, the ejaculatory duct contracts violently and rhythmically, the seminal vesicle contracts spasmodically, and the relaxation changes after ejaculation cause the pressure in the seminal vesicle to rise rapidly. The capillaries on the cyst wall are damaged, causing bleeding and hematospermia, or the permeability of capillaries changes, causing blood seepage and red staining of semen. Organic hematospermia Organic hematospermia is caused by certain diseases, such as: 1. Inflammation The seminal vesicles, prostate gland and urinary tract are closely adjacent to each other. Once one organ is inflamed, it is easy to infect the other organ. The infection can cause local congestion, edema and bleeding. Seminal vesiculitis is the most common in clinical practice. The pathogens of infection include viruses, bacteria, mycobacteria and parasites. 2. Obstruction or cyst Obstruction of the ejaculatory duct can cause the proximal end of the obstruction to dilate and swell, leading to rupture of mucosal blood vessels and bleeding. 3. Tumor For example, prostate polyps, prostate tumors, seminal vesicle tumors, etc. may cause bleeding and cause hematospermia. 4. Vascular abnormalities Varicose veins of the seminal vesicle, prostatic urethra, and bladder neck can also be the cause of hematospermia. In addition, vascular abnormalities in the reproductive system during puberty can cause hematospermia, such as arteriovenous malformations and prostatic hemangiomas. 5. Iatrogenic causes For example, hematospermia may occur during a transrectal prostate biopsy to diagnose a prostate tumor. In addition, some drugs such as aspirin, sirolimus, and antithrombotic therapy may also cause hematospermia. 6. Systemic factors For example, high blood pressure, lymphoma and some blood diseases such as hemophilia and anticoagulant abnormalities secondary to liver disease can cause hematospermia. 7. Trauma This is relatively easy to understand. When there is perineal trauma, testicular trauma, or pelvic fracture, the sperm will be contaminated with blood, and hematospermia will occur. Hematospermia may seem scary, but in fact, inflammation is the most common cause. So don’t panic when you find yourself with hematospermia. Go to a regular hospital for a check-up immediately. With early examination and targeted treatment, most hematospermia can be completely cured. |
