The symptoms of condyloma acuminatum located in hot and humid areas are filamentous or papilloma-like, and are easy to merge into large masses.

The diagnosis of condyloma acuminatum is generally easy, and there are three situations: 1. The appearance is relatively typical (such as rough surface, nipple-shaped, cauliflower-shaped, cockscomb-shaped, etc.) and can be diagnosed by naked eyes alone.

2. Warts with atypical appearance can be identified and diagnosed by acetowhite test. The acetowhite test is highly sensitive and is very helpful in confirming HPV infection, especially subclinical infection. However, false positive reactions can also occur when chronic inflammation caused by other reasons leads to epithelial thickening. The boundaries of the white area of ​​the false positive reaction are unclear and irregular.

3. If the appearance is not typical and the acetowhite test results are not obvious, further tissue pathology examination can be performed for diagnosis.

It takes a while for HPV to infect the skin and mucous membranes of a person before damage appears. This period of time is called the latent period of condyloma acuminatum. The length of the latent period of condyloma acuminatum varies from person to person. Some people have a short latent period, while others have a longer latent period. According to surveys, the latent period of condyloma acuminatum is 3 weeks to 8 months, with an average of 2.8 months. The course of the disease usually changes from the latent stage to the subclinical and clinical stages. If condyloma acuminatum is compared to an iceberg, the subclinical stage is like the base of the mountain, and the clinical symptoms observed on the surface are like the peak of the mountain. If only the surface warts are removed, the wart cells under the skin will continue to replicate and multiply, and eventually manifest as clinical symptoms again. Therefore, the recurrence of condyloma acuminatum is the biggest problem in treatment, and treating the subclinical stage is the key. Currently, various treatments cannot completely prevent the recurrence of condyloma acuminatum. However, most condyloma acuminatum can be completely cured by removing the warts and combining them with other treatment methods.
