Can I wash my vulva during menstruation?

Women need to pay special attention to the health of their private parts during menstruation to avoid bacterial infection and gynecological diseases. It is generally not recommended to use a sitz bath during menstruation, but this does not mean that women cannot clean their vulva during menstruation. In fact, proper cleaning of the vulva can not only effectively remove bacteria, but also relieve women's menstrual distress. However, when cleaning the vulva, you need to pay attention to some details.

1. Clean the vulva properly. Do not flush the vagina unless necessary to avoid disrupting the ecological balance of the vagina and preventing external pathogens from invading the vagina.

2. Prepare your own cleaning utensils and towels. Clean the cleaning utensils before use, and dry the towels after use or in a ventilated place. It is best to dry them in the sun to help sterilize. Towels are not exposed to sunlight for a long time and are prone to breeding bacteria.

3. Develop the habit of wiping from front to back with toilet paper after defecation, and it is best to develop the habit of washing or flushing the anus with warm water. If it is not wiped clean, feces stains left in the anus will contaminate the underwear, and the intestinal bacteria contained in the feces stains will take the opportunity to enter the vagina and cause inflammation.

4. During menstruation, wash your lower body frequently with warm water and change sanitary pads frequently, because bacteria are most likely to multiply in a humid environment.

5. Do not use highly alkaline soap or chemicals such as potassium permanganate to avoid changing the normal acidic environment of the vagina. Wash the vulva and anus with water frequently. Pay attention to the order when washing, that is, wash the vulva first and then wash the anus. Do not do it the other way around to avoid contaminating the urethral opening. In addition, the practice of urinating first and then washing is unscientific, because doing so will allow bacteria to easily invade the anterior urethra. If you wash first and then urinate, the bacteria brought in during the washing process can be washed out of the body by urine.
