What is a semen test

What we often call sperm testing is actually a routine test, which can sometimes be called a routine semen test. Sperm testing can play a very important role in premarital examinations. If the couple has normal sexual intercourse and has not taken any contraceptive measures for 2 years but has not gotten pregnant, then they need to consider whether they are suffering from infertility. The first step is to check whether the man's sperm is normal.

Regular physical examination during the night

The key content of sperm testing is routine physical examination, which generally checks sperm color, sperm count, sperm motility, etc.

1. Sperm color

If the semen is normal, it should be transparent gray; if you abstain from sex for too long, it will be slightly yellow; if you have an inflammation, the semen will be yellow or even contain blood.

2. Sperm density

Under normal circumstances, the amount of semen discharged each time is between 2 and 6 ml, which is affected by the frequency and frequency. If it is less than 1 ml each time, the sperm density is too low, and if it is less than 6 ml, the sperm density is too high. Both of these situations are abnormal.

3. Sperm liquefaction time

When semen is first discharged, it is like gel, but after five to thirty minutes it will become liquid, which we call vaporization. The whole process of sperm liquefaction requires the assistance of a lot of protease. If the semen is thicker and not easy to vaporize, then the male's prostate or seminal vesicle may be abnormal.

4. pH value of sperm

Normal semen should be slightly alkaline, in other words, the accurately measured pH value is between 7.2 and 7.8. If the pH value is lower than 7, it is acidic, and if it is higher than 8, it is alkaline, neither of which is very healthy.

5. Sperm count

Refers to the total number of sperm per ml of semen. Under normal circumstances, the sperm density per ml of semen exceeds tens of millions. If it is lower than this standard, it is oligospermia, which will affect the creation of offspring. And within one hour after ejaculation, the sperm that is normally active should account for at least 60%.
