How can the elderly quit smoking?

The elderly have been smoking for a long time and are usually more addicted to smoking than young people, so it is more difficult for them to quit smoking than young people. And because the physical fitness of the elderly is not as good as that of young people, some more extreme smoking cessation methods are not suitable for the elderly. It is better for the elderly to quit smoking gradually.

1. Changing Perception

1: Start by changing your cognition. The elderly should change their view that smoking can help them get to know colleagues, relieve stress, and relax. They believe that smoking has these benefits, and other methods are equally acceptable. Why choose a bad method? They should change some of their traditional ideas and tell themselves that smoking is both annoying and harmful to health.

2. Don’t carry cigarettes

1: Sometimes I will unconsciously take out cigarettes from my pocket. If I don’t carry cigarettes with me, I will smoke less often and I will have to resist buying cigarettes.

3. Slowly reduce the number of times you smoke

1: It may be difficult to get people to quit smoking all at once. If you used to smoke 10 cigarettes a day, you can set a goal to quit smoking within 100 days, one cigarette every ten days. You can gradually quit smoking.

4. Let your friends monitor you

1: Tell everyone around you about your plan and ask them to remind you not to smoke at any time. You can even take corresponding punishment measures against you, such as treating everyone around you to a meal if you are caught smoking.

5. Eat snacks instead of smoking

1: Some psychologists say that smoking is because people’s oral stage is not well developed in infancy, so they use smoking to satisfy their oral desire. In fact, this oral desire can also be obtained from eating snacks, such as melon seeds, chewing gum, etc.

6: A person quits smoking at the age of 30

If you quit smoking at the age of 60, you can add 10 years to your life. If you quit smoking at the age of 60, you can also add 3 years to your life. In other words, it is never too late to quit smoking. Quitting smoking can not only prolong your life, but also allow you to live a disease-free, free and happier life in your later years.
