I woke up with numb hands. What disease do I have?

Numbness in the hands after waking up from sleep is a very common symptom. You don't need to worry if this symptom occurs occasionally. It may be caused by compression of blood vessels or nerves during sleep. If this symptom occurs frequently, you should go to the hospital for examination because it may be a disease.

1. Radicular cervical spondylosis

Symptom identification: In addition to numbness and pain in the fingers, the patient may also experience pain in the neck, back, head, and upper limbs, which may be radial or ulnar, or all five fingers may be numb, and there may also be a decrease in grip strength. The pain is usually dull, sore, burning, or dull, or electric shock-like. Numbness is often in the same location as pain, and the two often go hand in hand, but numbness mostly occurs in the fingers and forearms. The fingers and forearms have reduced sensation, and a few have hypersensitive areas, which are often caused by stimulation of the diseased segment.

2. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Symptom identification: The patient experiences numbness or tingling in 3.5 fingers on the side that are twisted, which worsens at night and causes the patient to wake up from sleep with pain. The pain worsens when the temperature is high and is relieved by movement or shaking the hand. In cold seasons, the affected fingers become cold, cyanotic, and the fingers are not flexible, and the thumb abduction muscle strength is poor. In severe cases, the thenar and hypothenar muscles on the affected side atrophy.

Carpal tunnel syndrome, also known as carpal tunnel stenosis, refers to a condition in which the transverse carpal ligament thickens due to wrist trauma, fracture, dislocation, sprain or wrist strain, the muscles in the canal swell, blood stasis and organization cause tissue degeneration, or carpal bone degeneration and hyperplasia, which reduces the circumference of the canal cavity, compresses the median nerve, and causes numbness and weakness of the fingers. This disease is prone to occur in people who do occupational lifting, lifting, twisting, pinching and other work. Finger numbness is one of its symptoms, but it is usually accompanied by numbness in the arms and other parts of the body.

3. Heart and kidney diseases

Symptom identification: Swollen fingers caused by cardiovascular and renal diseases are usually accompanied by swollen face or legs. If you feel numbness in your hands after getting up, you should be alert to the onset of disease. Numbness in your fingers is one of its early manifestations. If it is accompanied by joint pain, it is more likely. If it is accompanied by hard skin on the face and fingers, it may be scleroderma.

Although numbness in the hands after waking up from sleep is a common symptom, if we experience numbness in the hands after waking up from sleep for a long time, we must pay attention to it, because numbness in the hands after waking up from sleep may be caused by heart or kidney disease, or it may be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome.
