Thyroid cystic nodules require these three tests to confirm the diagnosis

Among the various classifications of thyroid nodules, thyroid cystic nodules occur most frequently in life. In order to confirm the disease, the following three examinations are required.

(1) Thyroid B-ultrasound examination

The nodules can be shown to be solid, cystic or mixed lesions. A single solid nodule is more likely to be malignant, and a mixed nodule also has the possibility of being malignant. A pure cystic nodule is less likely to be malignant.

(2) Thyroid radionuclide scanning

According to the nodule's ability to absorb radionuclides, it is divided into "hot nodules" and "cold nodules". "Hot nodules" are functional autonomous thyroid nodules, which are almost always benign. "Cold nodules" may be cancerous, but multiple "cold nodules" are mostly benign adenomas or nodules. In addition, if there is bleeding or cystic changes in the nodules, it may also appear as a "cold nodule".

(3) Neck X-ray examination

Small or sand-like calcifications on the nodules may be psammoma bodies of papillary carcinoma. Large and irregular calcifications may be seen in degenerative nodular thyroid or thyroid carcinoma. If infiltration or deformation is seen in the tracheal image, it indicates malignant changes.
