The dosage of metronidazole should be differentiated between adults and children.

In clinical practice, metronidazole is very effective in treating intestinal infections, so it is often used as a common medicine. So, what is the dosage of metronidazole?

1. Common dosage for adults

(1) Anaerobic infection: 0.5 g at a time, 3 times a day, for 7 days or longer. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 4 g.

(2) Intestinal infection: 0.5 g at a time, 3 times a day.

(3) Antibiotic-related enteritis: 0.5 g at a time, 3 to 4 times a day.

(4) Helicobacter pylori-related gastritis and peptic ulcer: 0.5 g at a time, 3 times a day, combined with other antibiotics, the course of treatment is 7 to 14 days.

(5) Protozoan infection:

① Intestinal amebiasis: 0.4-0.6 g each time, 3 times a day, for 7 days;

② Extraintestinal amebiasis: 0.6-0.8g each time, 3 times a day, for a course of 20 days;

③ Giardiasis: 0.4g each time, 3 times a day, the course of treatment is 5 to 10 days;

④ Medina nematode disease, 0.2g each time, course of treatment 7 days;

⑤ For bagworm disease, 0.2g each time, twice a day, the course of treatment is 5 days;

⑥ Skin leishmaniasis, 0.2g each time, 4 times a day, 10 days for a course of treatment, repeat the course after 10 days;

⑦ For trichomoniasis, 0.2 g at a time, 4 times a day, for 7 days. Suppositories can be used at the same time, 0.5 g inserted into the vagina every night, for 7 to 10 days.

2. Common dosage for children

(1) Anaerobic infection: Orally take 20-50 mg/kg body weight per day.

(2) Amebiasis: 35-50 mg/kg per day, divided into 3 doses, for 10 days.

(3) Trichomoniasis, balanitis, medinaphiliasis, and giardiasis: 15-25 mg/kg per day, divided into 3 doses, for 10 days.
