Side effects of metronidazole gargle and precautions for use

For people with oral inflammation such as gingivitis and periodontitis, metronidazole mouthwash is a commonly used clinical treatment. So, what are the side effects of metronidazole mouthwash?

Side effects of metronidazole gargle:

Occasionally, changes in taste, slight tingling in the oral mucosa, nausea, and vomiting may occur, which disappear after stopping the drug.

Because this product can be absorbed from the mucosa, long-term and large-scale use may produce the same adverse reactions as systemic medication, such as: reversible neutropenia; central nervous system symptoms such as headache, dizziness, epileptic seizures and peripheral neuropathy, as well as fever, vaginal candidiasis, cystitis, dark urine color and other reactions.

Metronidazole gargle precautions:

1. Shake before use.

2. If adverse reactions or allergic reactions of the central nervous system occur during use, the drug should be discontinued immediately.

3. Patients receiving anticoagulant therapy or those with decreased liver or kidney function should use this product with caution.

4. Do not drink alcoholic beverages during medication.
