Muscles can become paralyzed? Five symptoms of lumbar fracture

Medically speaking, fractures are a relatively complex disease and can occur in different parts of the human body, causing great inconvenience to the patient's life, especially the pain in the body, which is often unbearable for the patient. So, what are the symptoms of lumbar fractures?

1. Muscle paralysis:

After a long course of the disease, muscle paralysis will occur, manifested as the thigh or calf becoming thinner, lower leg weakness, and inability to complete certain movements, such as inability to curl up the toes and instep. In severe cases, the foot drops and the patient drags when walking.

2. Equine syndrome:

Some patients with severe or special types of lumbar disc herniation may experience numbness and tingling in the perineum, urinary and bowel function and sexual dysfunction, which are manifestations of damage to the cauda equina.

3. Low back and leg pain:

Lumbar fracture will cause persistent low back pain, which usually occurs first, followed by leg pain after a period of time, or both at the same time. The pain is relieved in lying position, but aggravated by sitting, standing or bending forward. The symptoms worsen when the intra-abdominal pressure increases, and the pain is aggravated by coughing, sneezing, straining during bowel movements, and even laughing, shouting, and crying. In the most serious cases, the pain can only be slightly relieved by bending over, flexing the spine and knees, and lying on the bed like a shrimp.

4. Intermittent claudication:

This means that after walking a certain distance, the patient will experience back pain and discomfort, and the radiating pain in the lower limbs will intensify. When the patient squats or lies flat for a while, the pain will gradually disappear or even disappear completely. After walking again, a similar situation will occur, and as the disease worsens, the walking distance will become shorter and shorter. This phenomenon is more prominent in lumbar spinal stenosis.

5. Numbness of thigh:

After a long period of illness, there is often subjective numbness, which is mostly limited to the calf, lateral side of the dorsum of the foot, heel, and sole. It may be accompanied by low back pain. A small number of people may only have numbness without low back pain.
