1. The reason why men have a lot of chest hair

The Adam's apple and chest hair of men, the breasts and fat distribution of women are all called secondary sexual characteristics, which refer to the differences between the two sexes other than the genitals. They are manifestations of physiological differences between men and women, but they cannot be equated with sexual ability. Secondary sexual characteristics are mainly caused by the difference in sex hormones secreted by male and female gonads (testicles in men and ovaries in women). Testosterone is the most important and most abundant sex hormone in men's blood. 2. Why do some people have more body hair and some have less?

Whether a person has a lot of body hair depends on two factors. The first is genetic factors. For example, Europeans tend to have more body hair than Asians. This is a genetic trait. The second is the level of androgen. Pubic hair and beards only appear at certain stages of a man's growth and development. Hormone levels play a key role.

Women also have the phenomenon of excessive body hair, because women actually also have androgens (secreted by the ovaries), and relatively speaking, women have fewer genetic factors. If a girl has obviously abundant body hair, then there is a high possibility that she has increased androgen.

3. More body hair means stronger sexual desire?

This association makes sense. Male animals (most typically lions) have thick and luxuriant hair, which indicates stronger fertility and better physical fitness. This is a common trait of many creatures (including humans).

Scientifically speaking, androgen is the biological basis of male sexual desire and sexual function. People with high androgen levels have abundant physical fitness, complete development, and stronger sexual desire. Some young people have not grown beards after puberty, or even have clear childish voices. These symptoms may be the problem of hypogonadism.

What about women with abundant hair? The same principle applies. If a woman's androgen level is too low, her sexual desire will indeed decrease, or even increase. However, if her androgen level is too high, it will cause women to have masculine characteristics such as excessive hair growth, voice changes, and acne, and will lead to a disease called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is definitely not a good thing.

4. More body hair, less head hair?

Since high levels of androgens lead to abundant body hair, why does androgenic alopecia also occur? Let's look at some examples.

Look at these two Hollywood stars, they have a lot of beards and chest hair, and they look very manly, so why do they lose their hair so badly?

There is a contradiction here. Men have more beards and chest hair, but less hair on their heads. This is androgenic alopecia. In fact, if we observe in real life, men with bald heads often have thick beards, because high androgens inhibit hair growth, but promote beard growth. For this type of hair loss, androgens are one reason, and the presence of androgen target organs in the hair follicles on the top of the head and forehead is also an important reason. People with androgenic alopecia often have no problems with their health, so kidney tonics and Chinese medicine are ineffective. They need to take Western medicine to stimulate the hair follicles, or consider hair transplant surgery.
