Men's Health: What are the dangers of hydrocele?

What are the hazards of hydrocele? Many people are unfamiliar with this. Only when men suffer from acute epididymitis, trauma, filariasis, schistosomiasis and other diseases can hydrocele occur. Hydrocele generally has no obvious symptoms, so it is not easy for people to detect.

Effect of hydrocele on fertility

There is a small amount of plasma in the normal testicular sac, which is similar in nature to the plasma in the abdominal cavity and has a lubricating effect, allowing the testicles to slide freely in it. Under normal circumstances, the wall of the sac has the function of secreting and absorbing plasma and keeping its capacity stable. If the tunica vaginalis itself and the surrounding organs or tissues become diseased, causing the secretion and absorption functions of the tunica vaginalis to be unbalanced, various types of hydrocele will be formed. This disease generally has a good prognosis after treatment. The clinical importance lies in the fact that long-term accumulation of fluid in the tunica vaginalis increases the internal pressure, causing testicular ischemia and poor testicular spermatogenesis, leading to infertility. At the same time, huge hydrocele in adults affects normal sexual life and can also lead to infertility.

There are several main types of hydrocele:

Hydrocele is manifested as a cystic swelling in the scrotum or spermatic cord, which is generally not uncomfortable and can vary greatly in size, most of which are oval. Congenital hydrocele can be squeezed to gradually shrink or even disappear completely when lying flat, and most hydrocele is unilateral. The scrotal skin of primary testicular hydrocele is normal, has high tension, and is translucent. If the tension of the hydrocele is not great and it is relatively soft, it should be considered as secondary hydrocele, and one should be alert to the presence of pathological changes in the testicles and epididymis, such as tuberculosis, syphilis, inflammatory lesions, tumors, and filariasis.

Hydrocele of the testicles has a certain impact on male fertility. The main reasons are:

1) The accumulation of hydrocele around the testicles presses on the testicles, affecting blood circulation and spermatogenesis.

2) Excessive hydrocele affects sexual life of the couple.

3) Those who suffer from diseases such as tuberculosis and orchitis are not conducive to fertility.
