Causes and treatments of testicular microlithiasis

Men should pay special attention to diseases that are very likely to occur in their genitals, and testicular microlithiasis is one of them. So, what are the causes and treatments of testicular microlithiasis?

Causes of testicular microlithiasis:

Testicular microlithiasis is a syndrome of numerous calcified foci with a diameter of <3 mm that are diffusely distributed in the seminiferous tubules of the testis. It is a rare disease with no obvious clinical symptoms and is often discovered accidentally during ultrasound examination of other scrotal diseases.

The stones of testicular microlithiasis are deposited in the underdeveloped seminiferous tubules. The epithelial cells of the seminiferous tubules fall off and fall into the lumen to form stones, blocking 30%-60% of the seminiferous tubules. The core of the stone is a calcified mass, and the lamellar structure surrounding the center is composed of collagen fibers. The diameter of each microlith is about 50um-350um.

Testicular microlithiasis is a very rare testicular disease, and its pathological mechanism is still unclear. It is believed that testicular microlithiasis is related to the shedding of epithelial cells into the seminiferous tubules, where glycoproteins and calcium salts are layered in rings and gradually deposited on the debris, forming concentric circles.

Treatment of testicular microlithiasis:

Testicular microlithiasis generally does not require treatment. Because patients with testicular microlithiasis have a high risk of developing primary testicular tumors, regular ultrasound examinations are required. Generally, it is advisable to perform ultrasound examinations every 6-12 months for testicular microlithiasis. Foreign literature reports that TM has a tendency to develop testicular tumors, so it should be taken seriously so that testicular tumors can be discovered in time. Children diagnosed in childhood should be followed up until adulthood.
