Causes of Antibodies to Sperm

Causes of Antibodies to Sperm

With the continuous improvement of living standards, more and more people are particularly prone to infertility due to diet and physical reasons. Among them, women's production of antibodies to sperm is a relatively common cause of infertility. However, due to our lack of knowledge of some medical common sense, we often do not know what causes sperm to produce antibodies, and thus cannot better regulate it. In order to enable women to become pregnant more smoothly, let us understand the reasons for the production of antibodies to sperm.

Causes of Antibodies to Sperm

Antisperm antibodies are a complex pathological product that can occur in both men and women, and its exact cause is not yet fully understood.

Male sperm and seminal plasma are specific antigens for women. After contacting blood, both men and women can cause immune response and produce corresponding antibodies, which prevent sperm from combining with eggs and cause infertility. The above-mentioned cases are sperm immune infertility. Female patients with anti-sperm positive often have reproductive system inflammations such as endometritis, vaginitis, and salpingitis before the onset of the disease. This is especially common in infertility caused by fallopian tube obstruction.

These patients often have a history of sexual intercourse during menstruation, postpartum lochia, and abnormal genital bleeding. Even if there is a chance of pregnancy, the fertilized egg is either sick or has been damaged, and is very likely to atrophy or die during the embryonic period, leading to spontaneous abortion. About 10% of the blood of male infertility patients is anti-sperm and anti-body positive.

Under normal circumstances, the testicles and male reproductive tract have a strong immune barrier, and sperm cannot come into contact with the body's own immune system, so immune response rarely occurs.

This situation is also caused by disease. For example, if the vas deferens is blocked due to inflammation or other reasons, causing sperm to escape, or if the vas deferens is blocked due to ligation, it is possible that the sperm antigen will come into contact with the body's immune system, causing the body to produce anti-sperm antibodies, causing the sperm to aggregate and stop, losing their vitality and making it difficult to complete the combination with the egg.

Antibody therapy for sperm

1. Immunosuppressive therapy: In clinical practice, adrenal cortex hormones are often used, with several methods, including local application, low-dose continuous administration, high-dose intermittent administration, and shock administration. The purpose of immunosuppressive therapy is to suppress the body's immune response and reduce the titer of anti-sperm antibodies. Of course, immunotherapy has great side effects, and experts do not recommend patients to use it.

2. Isolation therapy: This therapy is to use condoms to avoid and reduce the contact between the female reproductive tract and sperm and its antigenic substances, without producing new antibodies. Generally, the isolation lasts for 6-12 months, and the anti-sperm antibody titers in serum and cervical mucus are followed up. After returning to normal, conception is possible.

Children are very important to every family, because the existence of children will make our lives happier. The above is an introduction to the reasons for the production of sperm antibodies. After understanding it, I hope it will be helpful to friends who have such symptoms. While actively treating it, you must ensure good living and eating habits.
