The troubles of boys' voice change

The troubles of boys' voice change

When boys enter puberty, they will develop secondary male characteristics, such as the voice change period. During this stage, the voice of men becomes that of adults, and this period ends after the age of 17, so the voice change period is relatively long. This stage will bring certain troubles to men, causing them to lose the gentleness of children, and causing discomfort in their eyes, a protruding Adam's apple, and a deeper voice.

Voice change is an inevitable stage of growth. As people age, their voices change from childish to adult. Generally, voice change starts at 12-13 years old and ends at 17-28 years old. Food and environment also have a certain impact, which can easily cause individual changes in voice change.

During this period, the human larynx begins to develop rapidly, front and back, up and down, and left and right. The male thyroid cartilage will protrude forward to form the Adam's apple, while the female's up and down stretching of the larynx is not obvious. This is the biggest difference between male and female voice change.

The voice becomes hard, losing the softness of a child, the vocal cords become red, congested, and thickened, and various gaps form between the two vocal cords (glottis), especially the back third of the glottis, which cannot close and forms a triangular gap, the voice triangle. This situation is very common, and the throat is easily damaged during this period, so you must pay attention to protecting it.

After the voice change, the male voice will drop by 8 scales, which is a significant change; the female voice will drop by three scales, so the difference in high and low notes is not much, but the timbre is obviously different from that of children.

Teenagers generally enter the voice change period around the age of 14-16. This period is the stage of growth and development of their larynx and vocal cords. Its manifestations include: hoarseness, narrow range, voice fatigue, local congestion and edema, increased secretions, etc.

The voice change period is generally six months to one year. In order to maintain your voice during the voice change period, in addition to paying attention to using your voice scientifically and rationally and not letting it get too tired, it is also very important to pay attention to diet conditioning.

First, attention should be paid to the intake of collagen and elastin

The vocal organs are mainly composed of the larynx, Adam's apple and thyroid cartilage, which are made of collagen and elastic protein. The vocal cords are also made of elastic protein membranes. Therefore, adolescents in the voice change period should eat more foods rich in collagen and elastic protein, such as pig's trotters, pig's skin, tendons, fish, beans, seafood, etc.

Second, you should take in B vitamins and calcium.

Vitamin B2 and vitamin B6 can promote the development of skin; calcium can promote the development of thyroid cartilage. Foods rich in vitamin B2 include celery, tomatoes, eggs, beans, animal liver and fresh fruits. Foods rich in calcium include fish, shrimp, milk, soy products and so on.

Third, both staple and side dishes should be soft and refined foods.

Do not eat fried peanuts, popcorn, hotpot, nuts and fried hard and dry foods to avoid mechanical damage to the throat.

Fourth, drink plenty of water

It can reduce or remove local secretions and avoid secondary infection.

Fifth, eat less sour, bitter, raw, cold, spicy and stimulating foods

Such as garlic, pepper, ginger, leek, etc., because these foods will irritate the trachea, larynx and vocal cords. Do not drink too hot water or too much cold drinks, too cold or too hot is not good for the vocal cords. You should also avoid smoking and drinking to prevent aggravating local paralysis.

Bacterial inflammation.

Sixth, you should chew slowly when eating. Avoid eating quickly to prevent sand and fish bones in the food from hurting the tissues in the throat.

Before entering puberty, there is little difference in pronunciation between male and female teenagers, but after entering puberty, there will be obvious differences. Boys in particular will speak with a hoarse voice, commonly known as "broken throat". If you observe carefully, you will find that the boy's Adam's apple has become larger, but not very prominent. This stage is called the voice change period. After a period of time, the boy's voice will change from a child's voice to a coarse and low voice, similar to the voice of an adult male. At this time, the Adam's apple is very prominent. The relationship between the Adam's apple and voice change is very close.

During adolescence, the human body undergoes a great development and change, and the larynx develops very rapidly. The larynx is mainly composed of the thyroid cartilage above and the cricoid cartilage below. The thyroid cartilage is formed by the left and right square cartilages connected in the midline, and its shape is like two pages of a book cover unfolded backwards. The vocal cords are located inside the thyroid cartilage. After boys enter puberty, the larynx develops and grows rapidly, the angle formed by the left and right square cartilages becomes smaller, and the upper part protrudes forward to form the Adam's apple. At this time, the front and back necks of the larynx also loosen rapidly, the length of the vocal cords almost doubles, and the width and thickness also increase. As the vocal cords develop, the frequency will be reduced by about an octave, so the child's voice will become a rough and low male voice. Boys generally begin to enter the voice change period at the age of 13, and have completely entered the voice change period at the age of 15. After the age of 19, boys have prominent Adam's apples and their voices become deeper.

Although a girl's Adam's apple does not undergo obvious changes in appearance during puberty, there are significant changes inside the Adam's apple: the vocal cords become longer and narrower, resulting in a higher frequency of speech and a higher and sharper tone.

The length of the voice change period varies from person to person, ranging from 4 to 6 months to about a year. The vocal cords undergo significant changes during the voice change period. The vocal cords become congested, swollen, and secretions increase, making them very easy to be injured. Therefore, in order to protect the voice, teenagers during this period should not scream or talk loudly for a long time. Try to avoid the stimulation of adverse external factors, do not smoke, do not eat irritating foods, and combine work and rest, actively participate in sports activities, and prevent colds. The length of the voice change period is also closely related to the geographical location. Children in the south are relatively shorter, about 4 to 7 months, while children in the north are longer, about 6 to 12 months!
