What is gynecomastia?

We generally think that only women have breast problems, but in fact men can have them too. Male breast problems are also one of the most common problems that men visit for outpatient treatment, and are generally called gynecomastia. I believe that everyone is very unfamiliar with gynecomastia and does not understand it. Let's take a closer look at gynecomastia.

According to statistics, the incidence rate in adolescent boys is generally 60-70%. Within one or two years of testicular enlargement, around 12-15 years old, breast enlargement occurs, and there is usually tenderness, which disappears naturally within one to two years; but 7% of people still have not disappeared after puberty. This is male gynecomastia, which is mainly due to the fact that the concentration of androstenedione, a precursor of male hormones produced by the body, exceeds that of testosterone. The former is easily metabolized into estrogen by Aromatase in extratesticular tissues, especially adipose tissue, which stimulates breast tissue proliferation.

According to statistics, the number of male patients who request breast reduction surgery is increasing year by year, and breast plastic surgery is no longer just for women.

Gynecomastia can be divided into two categories. The first is pathological gynecomastia, which is caused by drugs (certain psychiatric drugs, certain hypertension drugs, etc.) or diseases (cirrhosis, malnutrition, hypogonadism, etc.), and the disease must be treated thoroughly with the right medicine. The second is primary gynecomastia, which is gynecomastia caused by no special disease or drugs, and the only way to improve it is surgery.

There are usually two methods for male breast reduction surgery. One is to remove excess fat from the chest through liposuction; the other is to remove hyperplastic glands and connective tissue. The surgery is not complicated and can usually be completed in about one to two hours. The anesthesia method depends on the scope of the surgery and the patient's physical condition. Recovery can be completed in about a month. After the surgery, you still need to pay attention to your lifestyle and diet, and strengthen exercise to shape your body.

The above introduces some basic information about male gynecomastia. I hope it can help you better understand male gynecomastia in life. I wish you all a happy life!
