How is the sperm motility of fat men?

Everyone hates obesity, but in today's society, the number of obese people is very large. Obesity has many harmful effects. First of all, it will affect a person's appearance and cause problems in emotions and social aspects. In addition, obesity will bring a series of health problems. For example, obese people are more likely to have high blood pressure, high blood lipids, etc. If a man is obese, it will also affect the vitality of sperm.

How is the sperm motility of fat men?

Obesity may affect sperm health. A study found that compared with men with normal waist circumference, obese men with excessive waist circumference have poorer sperm quality and are more likely to have fertility problems. Among the more than 5,000 men surveyed, those with a BMI (body mass index, weight divided by the square of height) of 20 to 25 had higher levels of healthy sperm. When the BMI exceeded 28, the number of sperm would decrease and the deformity rate would be high. After excluding factors such as smoking and drinking, this association still exists. This may be because adipose tissue affects sex hormone metabolism and causes the temperature of the male's lower body to be too high, thereby affecting sperm production.

Secondly, obese men are more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED), which in turn affects normal sex life and reduces the chance of pregnancy. The androgen level in obese men decreases, while the estrogen level increases. The sexual function will be weakened to varying degrees, which is manifested in the decrease of male virility, low sexual function, and unsatisfactory sexual desire, erection, sexual intercourse, ejaculation, orgasm, etc.

Finally, obese people often have poor physical fitness and poor coordination of their limbs, which will also reduce the success rate of their sexual life. In addition, the thick fat layer in the abdomen will bury the root of the penis, directly affecting the length of the penis during erection, causing men to lack confidence and affecting their sexual life.

First, adipose tissue affects sex hormone metabolism, which may hinder sperm production and sperm quality.

Second, temperature may have a negative impact on sperm production. The normal human body temperature is around 37°C, and the optimal temperature for sperm production is 2°C lower than normal. Obese men have more fat, so their body temperature is higher than normal people. A high temperature in the scrotum will directly affect the spermatogenic ability of the testicles, resulting in a decrease in sperm production; even if the amount of sperm production is not affected, the quality of the sperm produced will be affected.

Third, diabetic patients suffer from more sperm damage.

In addition, obesity can lead to diabetes or latent diabetes, which can also damage sperm and thus affect male fertility. This has been proven by other researchers. Cohen Meridis of Queen's University Belfast treated 40 men who were not overweight but had diabetes and found that due to diabetes, the patients had higher levels of sugar in their blood, which damaged the DNA in their sperm. They found that the probability of sperm damage in diabetics was twice that of normal men without diabetes.

Despite this, researchers still cannot confirm that obesity will definitely cause infertility, as it depends on other factors. For example, if an obese man marries a normal woman, the obese man's reproductive function will be compensated by the other party, so it does not necessarily lead to infertility. However, if an obese man marries an obese woman, the obesity of the two will be superimposed and form an amplification effect, causing infertility.
