Symptoms after prostate surgery

Symptoms after prostate surgery

Prostate disease is a common disease among men. People who suffer from prostate disease are generally more likely to be middle-aged and elderly. When changes occur, patients will experience difficulty urinating and obvious pain. When the symptoms are severe, it may even affect the male's sexual function. When suffering from prostate disease, you should go to the hospital for relevant examinations in time and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

Symptoms after prostate surgery

Once the catheter is removed after prostatectomy, most patients can urinate smoothly. A few patients may have difficulty urinating or may urinate smoothly at first but gradually develop difficulty urinating after a few days.

The reasons are:

1. Bladder neck edema is mostly caused by long-term catheterization and balloon pressure, and gradually subsides after catheter removal.

2. Bladder neck stenosis, prostatic hyperplasia combined with bladder neck hypertrophy, fibrosis or enlarged prostate, high crypt margin, no wedge resection or incision of the bladder neck muscle layer, no purse-string suture of the bladder neck to isolate the glandular crypt during surgery, the intestinal suture has not been loosened when the tube is removed, and bladder neck contraction occurs after surgery, causing difficulty in urination.

3. When there are residual prostate tissue, crypt infection, prostate nodular hyperplasia and adhesion, there are often residual nodules after surgery. If the nodules are located at the apex of the prostate, the symptoms will recur earlier and proliferate again, causing difficulty in urination.

4. Urethral stenosis, which usually occurs 2 to 6 weeks after surgery, is progressive and is mainly caused by the catheter being too thick, being left in place for too long, compressing the urethra, or combined with inflammation.

5. Neurogenic bladder, with concurrent neurological lesions that were not detected before surgery.

Preventive measures

Before enucleating the adenoma, if the bladder outlet is narrow or the posterior lip is thickened, a wedge-shaped resection of the posterior lip muscle layer is required, and the bladder mucosa is sutured to the posterior wall of the glandular fossa to form a funnel-shaped outlet. The bladder neck is only partially sutured to leave a wide outlet, allowing the catheter balloon to compress it in the bladder. The catheter should not be left in place for too long. If the flushing fluid becomes clear, the balloon pressure can be released 24 to 48 hours after the operation.

Precautions after prostate surgery

Prostate patients need to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation after surgery and should not be discharged immediately. During these days, the hospital will observe the patient's postoperative recovery every day to understand the patient's specific condition. If there are any adverse effects, the doctor will immediately take corresponding measures. After the operation, you can return to a normal diet and develop a reasonable and nutritious diet. At the same time, avoid spicy, heavy-tasting, and high-fat foods. Smoking and drinking are also prohibited.

After the operation, the patient can follow the doctor's instructions and not do strenuous exercise. Instead, he can do simple and light exercise to keep the blood flowing smoothly. He should learn to regulate his nervous emotions and keep himself in a good mood. If constipation occurs, he should tell the doctor immediately and follow the doctor's instructions and actively cooperate with the doctor for treatment. After prostate surgery, it is also necessary to take medication for a period of time. The doctor will tell the patient how long to take it, so the patient cannot stop taking the medication without authorization or take medication other than that prescribed by the doctor.
