Microsurgery has played an important role in the development of reproductive medicine in the past 5 to 10 years. The technological revolution of microsurgical vasovasostomy and vasoepididymostomy has significantly improved the treatment of obstructive azoospermia (OA) and has become the first choice for the treatment of OA.

OA causes 10% to 15% of male infertility. Vasoastomosis and vasoepididymal anastomosis are the two most common and effective methods for treating OA. However, they are still quite difficult, namely how to establish a well-aligned, smooth and leak-proof anastomosis on a lumen with a diameter of only about 0.3 to 0.4 mm. This is the key to the surgical outcome - the recanalization rate and pregnancy rate.

Before the use of microsurgery, the results of traditional nonmicrosurgical surgery were far from ideal. Since the late 1970s and early 1980s, the introduction of microsurgery has significantly improved the surgical results.
