Should men have sperm tests during their premarital check-up?

Nowadays, more and more people will do premarital examination before getting married. This is good for the health of both parties and will not miss any diseases. However, many male friends do not think of checking sperm during the premarital examination. In fact, this is the most critical examination. Only by checking whether your sperm is normal can you know your physical condition and prevent infertility.

1. Ask about medical history

1. To find out whether the two parties are related by blood, both parties should present the “Certificate of Marriage Status” issued by their work units.

2. Understand the current and past medical history of both parties.

Such as the presence or absence of venereal diseases, leprosy, mental illness, various infectious diseases, genetic diseases, diseases of vital organs, urinary and reproductive systems, and intellectual development;

3. Understand the personal history of both parties, and inquire about the work and living environment, smoking and drinking habits, etc. that may affect reproductive function.

4. The woman’s menstrual history and the man’s spermatorrhea.

5. Family history of both parties, with emphasis on medical history related to genetics.

6. For those who are remarrying, their previous marriage and childbearing history should be inquired.

2. Genital examination is to detect genital diseases that may affect marriage and childbearing.

For females, abdominal and anal bimanual examinations are performed to note the presence of occluded hymen, absent or occluded vagina, absent or dysplastic uterus, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, etc. When examining male genitalia, attention is paid to the presence of phimosis, penile nodules, short penis, hypospadias, cryptorchidism, microtestis, varicocele, and hydrocele, etc.

3. Laboratory examinations: In addition to routine blood and urine tests, chest X-rays, liver function tests and blood typing, women will undergo vaginal secretion tests to check for trichomonas and fungi, and gonorrhea smear tests if necessary; men will undergo routine semen tests.

If necessary, an IQ test should also be conducted.

Must-check items:

1. Legal infectious diseases. These include AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis B, etc. These diseases can be screened by blood draw or smear.

2. Severe mental illnesses. Such as severe mania and schizophrenia. These diseases may endanger the life and health of others, and the psychological problems of patients may also cause many serious consequences. Such diseases require diagnosis by psychiatrists.

3. Reproductive system malformations. These diseases directly affect fertility. Some of these diseases can be diagnosed by male and female doctors with the naked eye, while others require B-ultrasound examination.

4. Congenital genetic diseases. Such as albinism, primary epilepsy, chondrodysplasia, myotonic dystrophy, hereditary retinitis pigmentosa, etc. The screening of genetic diseases requires chromosome testing.

5. Routine blood and urine tests.

Optional items:

1. Pulmonary function. Usually a chest X-ray is sufficient.

2. Heart function. Common heart diseases can be screened with an electrocardiogram, and congenital heart diseases can be screened with a cardiac ultrasound.

3. Blood sugar. Have a blood test to check if you have diabetes.

4. Blood pressure. Have a blood test to check if your blood pressure is too high or too low.

5. Internal organs. B-ultrasound can check whether there are any abnormalities in the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and kidneys.

6. Blood. Draw blood to check whether liver and kidney function are normal.
