What is the normal range of prostate size?

The prostate is a normal organ in men, but many people do not know what is the normal size of the prostate, which is a big problem for them. Located below the bladder neck, surrounding the junction of the bladder opening and the urethra, this part of the urethra is called the "urethral prostatic part", which means that the tube formed in the middle of the prostate constitutes the upper opening of the urethra. It can be said that the prostate controls the upper opening of the urethra, and the reason why urination is first affected by prostate disease is because of the structure of the prostate.

1. Normal size range

The prostate is a male-specific sex gland. It is a very rare sex gland in the human body with both internal and external secretory functions. The prostate is an unpaired substantial sex organ, composed of glandular tissue and muscle tissue. The normal size of the prostate is about 4cm in horizontal diameter at the upper end, about 3cm in vertical diameter, and about 2cm in front-back diameter. The normal size of the prostate is 4*3*2cm. If there are some actual discrepancies, there is usually no substantial disease. Further diagnosis is required to give a clear diagnosis. It is recommended to temporarily take care of yourself, such as: drink more water, pay attention to local hygiene, strengthen nutrition, exercise, avoid sitting for a long time, quit smoking and drinking, fast from spicy and irritating foods, moderate sex life, and prohibit unclean sexual intercourse. Comprehensive observation, if necessary, can consider giving other examinations such as routine prostatic fluid examination, to make a clear diagnosis as early as possible, and promptly treat the symptoms according to the doctor's instructions.

2. Clinical significance of examination

Abnormal results: When prostate cancer grows in the capsule, it is difficult to confirm with CT. It can only be diagnosed when it breaks through the capsule and infiltrates into the surrounding fat tissue. The manifestations are irregular prostate contours and uneven density. The anterior wall of the rectum and the bladder wall may be infiltrated, and the seminal vesicle angle disappears. CT can also detect lymph node metastasis and pelvic metastasis. CT is helpful for the staging of prostate cancer. On MRI, because prostate hyperplasia mainly occurs in the central area, the central area is enlarged on T2WI. Prostate cancer often occurs in the peripheral area, resulting in nodular shadows with limited low or slightly low signal in the peripheral area on T2WI. Therefore, MRI is more valuable for diagnosis than CT. However, when the MRI manifestations of prostate cancer are atypical, diagnosis is still difficult.

People who need to be checked: middle-aged and elderly men who often have difficulty urinating, sometimes feel that the urine cannot be emptied, and have frequent urination due to the inability to empty the bladder, especially patients with symptoms such as increased nocturia, difficulty urinating, significantly reduced urine volume, and poor urine flow.

Do you know the normal range of prostate size? The prostate is one of the important organs of men. It has exocrine and endocrine functions. In addition, it is close to the bladder neck and constitutes the proximal urethral wall. When the urge to urinate occurs, the detrusor muscle contracts and the internal sphincter relaxes, allowing urination to proceed smoothly. Pay attention to ensuring hygiene.
