Causes of scrotal edema

Causes of scrotal edema

Scrotal edema is a common male urinary disease. When scrotal edema occurs, the scrotum is very vulnerable to injury and will cause swelling and pain, which seriously affects the normal life of men. In severe cases, it will affect their fertility. Since there are many reasons for scrotal edema, it is difficult to determine the cause. However, the common causes of scrotal edema are as follows.

1. Congenital scrotal edema

Congenital scrotal edema is an allergic disease that is not related to trauma or infection. During the embryonic period, there is a "inguinal process vaginalis" in the groin that can help the testicles descend into the scrotum or fix the uterine ligament. After some babies are born, this process vaginalis is not completely closed, causing the peritoneal fluid in the abdominal cavity to enter the scrotum, forming scrotal edema. Scrotal edema is manifested as scrotal swelling, or one side of the scrotum is larger than the other, which is easy to be injured, sometimes combined with swelling and pain, and even excessive fluid accumulation affects the blood circulation of the testicles, causing testicular atrophy over time.

2. Acquired scrotal edema

It mostly occurs in adults. Local trauma, scrotal impact, radiation therapy of the scrotal testicles, acute and chronic epididymal inflammation, and tuberculosis invasion of the testicles and epididymis can all cause scrotal hydrops. In addition, if men under 40 years old suddenly develop scrotal hydrops, testicular tumors should be considered, because the stimulation of tumors can cause scrotal hydrops. 10% of testicular tumors first appear as symptoms of scrotal edema.

3. Pathological changes of scrotal contents

(1) Hydrocele, hemocele, pustules, and chylocele.

(2) Acute and chronic epididymitis, epididymal tuberculosis, epididymal hemofilariasis, epididymal congestion after sterilization, and spermatocele.

(3) Orchitis, testicular tuberculosis, testicular syphilis, and testicular tumor.

(4) Varicose cord and spermatic cord inflammation, hydrocele, varicocele, spermatic cord torsion, spermatic cord cyst, spermatic cord hemofilaria nodule, spermatic cord hematoma, painful nodule in the vas deferens after sterilization, and sperm granuloma after sterilization.
