Is blood in semen serious?

If there is blood in the semen, it should not be treated carelessly, especially if there is a lot of bleeding. In this case, you should pay attention to check whether it is caused by some serious lesions in the reproductive area. If it is indeed a seminal vesicle cyst or other diseases such as prostate cancer, it should be taken seriously and treated scientifically.

1. Blood in semen is not easy to be noticed immediately by people, unless the bleeding is heavy, otherwise it is difficult to find it during sexual intercourse. Even if the penis, clothing, etc. are stained with blood after sexual intercourse, people often think of the woman first. If you wear a condom during sexual intercourse or ejaculate outside the body, it is not difficult to find blood in semen.

2. If the normal milky white color suddenly changes to blood red, reddish brown or mixed with blood, it is of course mixed with blood, which is blood in the semen. It is nothing more than a pathological change in a certain tissue part of the sperm's running path, such as bleeding, inflammation, or even a tumor. Don't take blood in the semen lightly, it may also be a signal of a serious disease. It is best to find a specialist doctor for a serious examination.

3. Clinically, blood in semen is not uncommon. After detailed clinical and laboratory examinations, the vast majority of cases are controlled or cured after treatment, and only a very small number of tumor patients need further treatment. In addition to a small amount of sperm, the components of semen mainly come from the seminal vesicles, followed by the prostate. From an anatomical structure, the ejaculatory duct connected to the seminal vesicle opens at the urethral ridge of the posterior urethra, and there are 10-20 prostate gland duct openings around it.

Therefore, the common cause of blood in semen is first seminal vesiculitis, followed by prostatitis and posterior urethritis or posterior urethral congestion. It can also be caused by the spread of inflammation in other nearby organs, causing inflammation, swelling, congestion and bleeding of the seminal vesicle wall. Generally speaking, at least 70% of blood in semen of men under 30 years old is caused by inflammation.

If the blood in semen only occurs occasionally and no specific changes are found after examination, it may also be caused by the rupture and bleeding of tiny blood vessels in certain tissues due to rapid congestion and mechanical collision during sexual intercourse. There is no need to panic about this transient blood in semen, as it can be completely recovered by suspending sexual intercourse for one or two weeks. Bleeding caused by inflammation is mostly intermittent, but does not last long. If the blood in semen persists and continues to worsen, the possibility of tumor cannot be ruled out. Individual patients with extensive bleeding tendency in other parts of the body are likely to have systemic blood system bleeding diseases, such as leukemia and thrombocytopenia, rather than the consequences of local lesions.

6. Other causes of blood in semen include: tuberculosis, seminal vesicle cyst, seminal vesicle tumor, prostate cancer, portal hypertension due to liver cirrhosis, trauma, urinary tract obstruction, prostate hypertrophy, etc. It is not easy for people to notice immediately, unless the bleeding is heavy, otherwise it is difficult to find during sexual intercourse.
