The corpus cavernosum is of great significance to men. It is also the main component of the penis. The penis can only erect when the corpus cavernosum is engorged with blood. However, many men now have corpus cavernosum dysplasia and insufficient corpus cavernosum congestion, which affects their sexual life and requires timely treatment. 1. What is the cavernous body? The penis is mainly composed of three parallel corpora cavernosa, which are similar in structure. There are two corpora cavernosa, which are shaped like cones with sharp ends. The two corpora cavernosa are arranged in parallel on both sides of the midline of the human body and are closely connected. Functionally, they are completely a unit. They form the basis of the penis shaft, located on the back and sides of the penis, and occupy most of the volume of the penis. Except for the flat inner side of each corpus cavernosum that is attached to each other, their cross-sectional shape is approximately circular. The two corpora cavernosa separate from each other only at the root to form two crura of the corpus cavernosum. After separation, they first swell slightly and then gradually become thinner. They are attached to the pubis, the periosteum of the inferior sciatic ramus and the perineal fascia on each side through a strong fibrous band. 2. The special significance of the corpus cavernosum of the penis Like the clitoris, the glans penis has a special significance in sexual sensation. The glans penis has rich nerve innervation and is very sensitive to external stimulation, but the number of nerve fiber endings is about half that of the clitoris. The beginning of the corpus cavernosum of the urethra is enlarged into a ball-like mass called the bulbus urethrae, which is attached to the perineal fascia below the urogenital diaphragm. In this way, the three corpora cavernosa of the penis are separated from each other at the base of the penis. The size of the bulbus urethra varies greatly. There is a depression on the midline below the posterior part, and a poorly developed midline fibrous diaphragm can be seen deep inside it. Their appearance indicates that they are formed by the fusion of two symmetrical halves. The urethra passes through the perineal fascia and enters the bulbus urethra obliquely at a place very close to the posterior end of the bulbus urethra. The surface of the bulbus urethra is covered with bulbus cavernosum muscle. The transverse muscles covering the corpus cavernosum of humans, namely the bulbospongiosus and ischiospongiosus, have nothing to do with erection, but they both contract rhythmically during ejaculation to help eject semen out of the body. The transverse pelvic muscles of many mammals play an important role in the full erection of the penis. Some people also believe that the contraction of these two groups of muscles will help to curb the reflux of venous blood and enhance the erection of the penis. On the contrary, when they are too weak, they will become one of the contributing factors to impotence. Therefore, some people suggest that when men exercise muscles such as the pubococcygeus muscle, it will be beneficial to maintain their erectile ability, especially helping to overcome the problem of weak erection at the base of the penis. |
