Nowadays, stylish men are in fashion. Besides stylish outfits, a tall and thin figure is also a must. However, there is a disease that particularly favors this type of men. When it strikes, chest pain is the precursor. People who don’t know about it think that there is something wrong with the heart, but they guess the answer wrongly. In fact, this special chest pain comes from "spontaneous pneumothorax". David is a typical office man, tall and thin, with fashionable clothes. However, the pressure of being a planning director makes him work in front of the computer every day, leaving him no time to relax, let alone exercise. Last Friday, a week of work was finally finished. As a sports lover, he made an appointment with his friends to play basketball. Unexpectedly, David suddenly had chest pain halfway through the game, and it didn't get better even after resting for a long time. He thought there was something wrong with his heart, so he went to the hospital for a check-up, and the results showed that his heart function was completely normal. However, the doctor found that his left breath sounds were weakened, and a chest X-ray showed "left-side pneumothorax, lung tissue compression of about 50%~60%, and a small amount of fluid in the left chest cavity." The actual cause of his chest pain was pneumothorax. Why did he get pneumothorax? 1. Tall and thin Our chest cavity is composed of parietal layer and visceral layer, and there is a closed potential space between the two. Tall and thin men like David often have congenital pulmonary elastic fiber dysplasia, which leads to the reduction of alveolar wall elasticity, the rupture of small alveoli, and the expansion of bullae. Once there is an inducement to rupture the bullae, air will enter the pleural cavity. The pneumothorax formed in this way belongs to spontaneous pneumothorax, and the first symptoms are sudden chest pain and dyspnea. 2. Vigorous exercise When doing strenuous exercise such as playing football, basketball, or aerobics, some of the small alveoli will fuse into a large bulla. When the pressure in the lungs suddenly increases, the bulla is likely to rupture and cause pneumothorax. David rarely exercises, so a sudden strenuous exercise could cause a pneumothorax. 3. Cold and cough After catching a cold, he coughs continuously. You should know that every time the tall and thin man coughs violently, the alveoli will be severely "impacted", and the alveolar walls will easily rupture, greatly increasing the incidence of spontaneous pneumothorax. 4. Bad habits Factors such as stress, staying up late, smoking, alcoholism, karaoke, and temper tantrums will increase the burden on the lungs. In the absence of other inducements, the pleura may rupture, causing a large influx of gas, leading to air accumulation in the chest cavity and causing spontaneous pneumothorax. |
