Penile and scrotal edema

Penile and scrotal edema

In fact, adults rarely suffer from scrotal edema, only some children will encounter this situation. If scrotal edema occurs, most children can absorb and heal it by themselves, but if they are over 1 year old, the probability of self-healing will gradually decrease, and surgical treatment will be required at this time. Therefore, once scrotal edema is found, it should be treated in time.

Scrotal edema (edema of scrotum). During the embryonic period, there is a "process vaginalis vaginalis" in the groin, which can help the testicles descend into the scrotum or fix the ligamentum corpus uteri. After some babies are born, this process vaginalis is not completely closed, causing the peritoneal fluid in the abdominal cavity to enter the scrotum, forming scrotal edema. Scrotal edema is manifested as scrotal swelling, or one side of the scrotum is larger than the other, which is easy to be injured, sometimes combined with swelling and pain, and even too much water accumulation affects the blood circulation of the testicles, causing testicular atrophy over time. It is difficult for children over one year old to absorb and heal on their own, and treatment uses two methods: surgery and extraction of accumulated water.

Differential diagnosis of scrotal edema and hernia: The most common and typical hernia is a bulging mass found in the groin, and some may even swell to the scrotum. Most of these masses bulge out after crying, coughing, sneezing, standing for a long time or strenuous exercise, but they will disappear naturally after lying down or resting, and sometimes you need to press it back with your hands. The pain caused by a simple hernia is usually not severe, but if there is persistent severe pain in the groin, and the mass cannot be pressed back, and the symptoms persist for two or three days, it may be caused by necrosis of the embedded intestine or fallopian tube. This is a very serious complication that may be life-threatening.

treatment

There are two treatment methods: surgery and drainage of the accumulated water.

Most children can heal on their own before one year old. If they are over one year old, the chance of spontaneous healing is low and they should receive treatment.
